If you need creativity, go no further than some big burly swearing space crabs.

While big burly swearing space crabs are neat and all Feral, they're not exactly... applicable to what Simons writing right now.

EDIT:

Second part up. Third part will be some time in coming since it isn't entirely written yet.

So that I don't clutter up the map thread with natter, I must say that I am quite amused by Simon's decision to mark the Space Crabs on the map with a picture of the cigarette-smoking crab. Fits in perfectly with how they're characterized.

I am also profoundly disturbed by the way the Unified Imperium treats dissidents and insurgents. However, it does give me a heck of a lot of story ideas, mostly involving SPACE VIKINGS, Scumdogs, terrorist attacks, and civil disobedience, all of which may or may not be covertly funded by the Holy Empire...

Soo they turn you into a girl and give you a mindwipe and new identity via brain tampering..Weird.

Chamarrans just kill those who refuse to submit, much simpler and much more in line with human ethics.

Exile is the standard operating procedure when it comes to dissidents in the Holy Empire. If you don't like the way Haruhi and her pantheon are taking care of you and your needs, you're free to leave. Just don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Also, Zor, if you try messing with Jarosława, David, Michał, or any other named resistance members I introduce without consulting me, Haruhi WILL sign legislation outlawing the Unified Imperium, and Homura WILL commence liquid-R bombardment within five minutes of Haruhi putting her signature on that legislation. I won't be having any cheap victories from you. It'll be the Dragonsnake River Valley all over again, but with Tiberium rubiconium.

Besides, a little unrest in the fringes keeps things interesting. You can always spin a few more story ideas about continued Imperium attempts to pacify Lada as long as the resistance is still there. It also gives your neighbors a few reasons to care about what goes on there. The Scumdogs can always use new business partners, while the SPACE VIKINGS would love to stir up some havoc there.

Glad you're amused by the crab, Shinn. The way I figure it, micronations are too small on the map to label properly. So I used smoking crab for the Crab Truckers, a Viking helmet for the Space Vikings, and of course The Romulan Republic's logo for the Romulan republic.

Hm.

As to your other stuff, Shinn. The other angle to play, of course, is the psychiatric issues of all these transmogrified victims of the Zorians. I'm pretty sure Zor has no idea just how fucked up in the head you could make someone this way.

The psychological issues surrounding transsexuality come to mind, as does dissociative identity disorder. There's also the story arc of Michael in Stargate Atlantis to consider. Nothing in this universe is perfect, and so it is with the Unified Imperium's mental tampering. I foresee a whole lot of unintended consequences regarding the rehabilitation of Alexi/Helen and his/her ilk...

On the subject of dissadents, the Authority has advantages and disadvantages.

The advantage is the vast majority of thier citizens are pre-programmed clones to start with and so don't tend towards objecting to the state or being unsatsified with thier positions for quite a while.

The disadvantage si the way that each individuals desires are enshrined as things to follow, and conflicting beliefs among the higher ups can basically allow the dissadents to get away with whatever it is they do. Though that's a bit on the rare side, the majority of Capellans who grow unhappy with the authority as they grow up tend to do things like go join the Space Gypsies or head off to try and find thier place elsewhere in the galaxy (With usually tragic results).

On the same note, Lada is just one newly annexed province in an Imperium built on conquest and integration. Don't have the rebels suddenly overthrowing Imperial Authorities or coming up with some magic drug which restores memories which have been quite thoroughly deleted during Rehabilitation or nonsense like that.

You know I don't play that way. Jarosława and her guys will be lucky if they knock off even one mid-ranking bureaucrat once the occupation really settles in. Also, while there certainly isn't any magic drug that'll completely reverse the rehabilitation process, the process itself certainly isn't perfect. Like Simon said, you may not be completely aware of just how utterly fucked up in the head you could make someone that way. Sure, they may be fine now, but what about months or years down the line? The chance of someone going all out and having a psychotic break may be small, but it's there.

Or should I just stick it up in this thread?

I've read it, but for everyone else's convenience, you should stick it up here as well. At the very least, the Volscians and the Hellenes should also work out where they stand with you in terms of history, seeing as they're also your neighbors.

[modhat on]

PMs should be reserved for communications we have reason to think shouldn't be public. For example, drafts of a story post may be PMed back and forth because you don't want the whole playerbase seeing them all at once. Secret plans, likewise. Things you need to check with a mod but want to surprise someone else with, ditto.

But if you have something innocuous and generic that doesn't do any harm if everyone knows about it, put it up here.

Righto! I just didn't want to spam things up in the thread and make it all about the Authority is all, anyways, in no particular order, the stuff with Shinn:
Me via PM wrote:Right, guess we should work out where we stand historically then, just PMing to make sure this gets through, feel free to continue this in the actual thread so not to consume too much inbox space.

Anyhow, we've got the Authority slowly emerging as a vibrant young major power that's the centre of a fair bit of trade, not quite sure where this matches up with the Holy Empire and it's micronations timelines, but some idea's of things that might have happened.

Since the Authority is new and inexperianced (Along with having no ESPers or any particular resistance to them) this might potentially make them a target for oppertunisitic Belkan Raiders? In much the same way that they might be interested in attacking the Confederacy once it starts to destablise.

Also, since the Authority is non-human, this might lead the Covenant to express interest in making them allies, possibly prompting the Holy Empire to offer mroe lucrative terms to avoid that? Totally open to any ideas you have too.
And the stuff I sent to Esquire:
Me via PM again wrote:Ahoy! Since we're neighbours I figured it'd be best to work out where we stand historically, especially since the Authority is friendly with the Chamarrans.

Well before the Chamarrans showed up the Authority is basically the new neighbour, so I don't know if you want to open friendly or have tensions build that overflow when the Chams turn up and stuff.
And to put up a few things I've worked out in private since we're doing this (That were going to get posted when I update the Authorities page sooner or later!), Dark and I have worked out that the Authority responded to the initial Chamarran invasion, but once thier backstory became apparent, they switched to an exclusive 'protect local civillians' mode, and in the end grew into trading partners helping them to rebuild thier new terratory (We've even got a prologue post about this in the works!).

And in terms of local history with the Confederacy, ScottishNinja confirmed that the nation itself is kinda hamstrung on the borders, so didn't do much other then pirates operating from Confederate sectors picking on the new guys from the block.

And that's everything, hope I didn't clutter things up too much.

And FL, could you scale down that image by about 50-60%? It's so big even my monitor can't hold it all, and I have a relatively big monitor on this thing.
