Hm. All right. I don't want to be prejudicial to your choices, though.

Hmm...I think I decided on what to do for Arcadia (planet). I'll have it be a dual planet system. The partner will be slightly larger than Mars (taking into account Arcadia being slightly larger than Earth). I'll probably end up using the other ideas for either VIKING planets or other Arcadian planets. The Venus one in particular is looking attractive for one of the Colony Capitals (not an actual Venus Mark 2 of course...nothings living on that).

I also think I may adjust my nation description to have a couple of the Colony Sectors be the Furling 'Empire's' territory. Kind of like how the Grays have other species inside their territory...so no need to change the map unless you really wanted too. Of course, I'd have to raise the Furling population, but 4 billion is (relatively) small anyway, so that isn't a big deal.

EDIT: Of course that would also mean changing the names of Nome and Berlin Sectors (preliminary at the moment). But that wouldn't be a big deal in the long run. Or I could just sacrifice one of my GDP boosts for a colony sector and put it and Nome as the Furling territory. Any objections to that? And if its easier to change the map up then that's okay too.

Why would I complain?

Still too busy to do a final run on the map- muses willing, just another week... [groans]

If you need something sooner, Shinn may drop by I hope.

Oh I'm still debating on if I will actually do it. Depends a lot on how much of an impact I want the modern Furlings to have beyond comedy value. I should have an answer by 7 or so hopefully.

I decided to go ahead with the New Furling Empire. Normally something like it would be set up as a micro-nation, but it is more equivalent to the Scumdogs or Philosophers Kingdom (or whatever it was called). Except it is two whole sectors, at G11 (Nome) and G12 (Marsa, the new one). If it would be easier to color them a different color so that people can tell who their invading (what it will happen at some point), then feel free to do so (whoever has the chance to mod the map first). Just remember for game purposes they are still part of Arcadia (technically)

EDIT: And darn that was a lot of parentheses...

EDIT Mark 2: And on a completely different subject...remember the Old Spice Guy vs. Most Interesting Man in the Galaxy thing we have set up? Well here is the proof it could happen: Spacbattles Crossover Pic Thread

If you can stomach the rampant Bronie infection, it does have a pic of those two together...the manliness should have destroyed the universe... :P

Wait...so who is manly there? Godzilla? I mean he is macho, I don't know about "Manly"
And what does he have to do with Bronies.

Please tell me you aren't planning on having a race of intelligent ponies around.

The Old Spice Guy and Dos Equis Guy. Very bottom of the page. The Bronie remark was because of the amount of them infesting that page (indeed that whole thread). And don't worry, I hate Ponies with the fire of a thousand suns, I would never EVER make a pony nation.

Also, today is the last day with the school laptop, so I have no bloody idea when I'll be able to get on again. So I'll be going silent for a while.

Sorry to hear that Skywalker, and I hope you can work something out. Library computer?

I've never understood why people hate the pony show. Me, I just don't give a shit about it; it's like programming in a TV foreign language for somebody else.

Yeah, I'll be using the towns library computer, at least until my mom gets me a laptop for college. Its just that I'll only be able to get on it once or twice a week, at BEST.

And I could care less about the show, its the rabid fanboys that annoy me. If you don't care about it, you're suddenly a hater or something. It gets to the point where I would never watch it even if I had wanted to.

Having finally gotten around to viewing that thread, I didn't see that much MLP shit infesting that particular page. The same guy who posted the picture of Isaiah Mustafa and Jonathan Goldsmith also posted some K-On!, Madoka, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure stuff (unfortunately, the PSG pic's broken), so he's alright in my book. Other things I liked there include the Saber Gundam and the Godzilla pics.

Roight. People, it would seem I will be very slow to act initially when the game starts, as I;ve had my time taken up by MATHS and to make things worse, my computer, being a piece of shit, decided to die. Needless to say, I am very angry and want to kill things.

I also have no money as of now to fix it >:(

I should go punch the guy who built my computer. Anyone who can build a gaming computer and have it break 19 times in a row, within the span of two years CANNOT be technically competent.

Maybe you should buy something mass-market? Those really don't normally fail that often.

Hmms...Just thinking about the expenses. If I went and brought a mass market it might end up being more expensive then me building my own computer, which is something I've been collecting a shopping list of parts for a long time.

If you feel competent to assemble your own computer and have it be as reliable as one from a factory, do so with my respect and good wishes.

I wouldn't be able to.

Oh come on Simon how hard can it be to construct your own computer. The worst thing that can happen is that it becomes sentient and decides to destroy humanity. Which may be a good thing depending on how you spin it.

With my luck, I would build the computer, it would become sentient, decide to destroy humanity, get confused, and bludgeon itself to death as Step One of its own evil plan.

Just put up part of something I started for SDNW4 and repurposed- a storyline I never got to adequately begin.

This is somewhat typical of my space battle writing, although a bit more personal because of the viewpoint. I need to try to resist the urge to come up with reasons to write too many space battle scenes; for me they run long.

You see, my computer should be relatively cheap to fix, considering it just needs a new power cable. The problem is that the thing is at least ten years old, and a double hand-me-down. Thus, even if I fix it, I doubt the thing would run the internet that well. Should be useful for typing if nothing else.

And I can get on at the library, but my High School graduation party is next Saturday (the day I normally go to the library) so I might not be on for two weeks this time. Depends on if I can convince my mom to let me go to the library during the week. Fingers crossed here...

EDIT: This is from the map thread, since I don't want to clutter it up too badly:
Simon_Jester wrote:The saying-it-is-there probably works best, since your Furlings are so tightly integrated into the rest of your state.

Oh, Skywalker? One word of advice. If you want to remain involved in the game over the summer, once I've actually got things running, I advise that you put a bit of thought into writing things up in between computer times. Doing stuff in a notebook and then typing it up on the rare moments when you can use the computer helps you stay focused on the game, and encourages other people to remember and care about your nation being around, so that you can easily get back into the swing of things when you have regular Internet access again.
Yeah, I do write stuff in notebooks. The problem is, that for whatever reason my writing quality suffers when I write it down as opposed to typing it. Don't ask me why, I've never been able to figure it out. That being said, I will write stuff down as a way to keep occupied if nothing else. And speaking of writing things down, I am going to do that Proto-Arcadian/Furling Remnant meeting chapter. No idea when I'll get it up, but it will be there. And if anyone wants to write something involving Arcadia, the Furlings, or the VIKINGS, go ahead. I won't be on to help on anything, but if anyone wants to write something involving them feel free to do so.

With respect Skywalker, running an web browser is -not- the most computer intensive thing you can do, aside from maybe some increased load/rendering times, it should have no problems.

Unless you're using a 10 year old broswer too :P

A ten year old computer may not be able to run a modern operating system. Which means probably not being able to run modern browsers either. Still, it's worth trying.

Skywalker, just for reference, since you're still a high school guy... "ten years old" does not equal "broken." Not even with electronic devices, let alone things like cars.

That should be, at most, about $10.

If you're not downloading terabytes of porn or playing every flash game on the internet, you should be fine, especially if you putz about with the graphics and turn a lot of fancy features off and prevent scripts from automatically running.

Pretty sure a ten year old machine can run XP, well unless it was a very crappy PC ten years ago, which it might have been!

More on topic though, I enjoyed the story, clearly all of SDNW4 was -actually- an Umerian naval training simulation :P

(I kid, I kid)

Thanks.

Actually, my rationale is that this is the Umerian equivalent of a fiction series that got waaay out of hand, until some creative loonies in the naval academy decided to turn it into a training series. From the point of view of the scenario designers, this has the advantage that you can make up whatever shit you want. Like all that "psi" stuff.

What if the giant space tentacle monsters communicate by telepathy and you can't get signals intelligence? Can you, a naval officer, function while psychics are trying to turn your brain inside out?

If you consider how close Umeria is to the League of Thought, this is not a trivial or academic question.

There's actually a lot more of it, it's just that the last part isn't finished and is taking freaking forever for me to get moving on, so I decided to put part of it up in hopes that it would have some kind of trigger effect on my creativity.
