Guys, just let those morons wallow in their ignorance. They clearly have no interest whatsoever in being corrected or learning. They're just trying to pretend they "beat down the mean old warsies" to compensate for everything else that is lacking in their lives.

True, but there may yet be that one odd gem who might be capable of learning. Was not Enterprise Sovereign once among their number?

I've stepped in for a little bit. Hopefully a little bit of calm rational will help a few. If not, then maybe I'll just make like SB and unleash the necrons.

Indeed I was  Just over 2 years ago I joined at ST.com and participated in a couple of vs threads at they came up, at the time it was mainly Servo and DMJ (as he was known then) slugging it out. And when I showed up here I really saw the light

It was only fitting that I write the Trektard article at Imperial Wiki, who better to write about Trektards than someone who used to be one?

I rest my case. It is possible that some may be shown the way out of ignorance and darkness. It is for their sake that we must show them the truth and that logic applies to all aspects of life, including these little silly sci-fi debates.

Dear heavens... I feel like Aristotle... I think that critical issues in literary study class is wearing on me.

Unfortunately, from the looks of things, the number of ignoramuses far outweigh the ones capable of understanding reason. I direct you to Panthera Knight's latest post in the subject.

Yes, but people like Phoenix have been shown the evidence and fought longer than most Trektards currently active. It's practically assured that they're either too stupid, too nutty, or too mentally disabled to change their positions.

Phoenix seems relatively new, DMJ in his various identities has been around the last 2 years, probably longer and is the classic example of Ferrous Cranus:

Each time he'd re-enter the debate using the same long-refuted argument about it being "impossible to analyse fiction", or somesuch. Took him long enough to finally look at the EU

If it's impossible to analyze fiction how, exactly, do those people determine Trek would win? :D

Its impossible to SCIENTIFICALLY analyze fiction. Wanked interpretation of dialog is perfectly reasonable according to that dipshit.

I think ES may be on to something here. It is entirely possible that the key to understanding the mind of the lover level trektards has just been discovered.

I think Darth Wong has already done this. In a nutshell: it's the only thing they have in life and so they HAVE to win or else they'll realize just what a waste their life is.

In DarkStar's case, from what I've read, he has no more idea of how science works either, and is quite convinced that Mike et al. are simply playing the same dishonest game that he does, but from the opposite side.

Try reading Mike's debate with him if you think you can stomach it, and notice where he insists that his crazy theory predicts all sorts of things despite not being defined. I think that when he claims he has defined his theory, he believes it because he has no idea what defining a theory actually means. He's also heard scientists explaining their theories to laymen, and so he thinks that simply saying that a theory predicts certain phenomena is all he needs to do, quite ignorant of how these predictions work.

That's what I think, anyway. It is of course possible that all of this is deliberately designed to confuse, rather than coming from incompetence, who knows? It's not as if he's about to tell anyone.

I'm really tempted to put in a Spetnaz-esque remark here, but then I remembered what Darkie boy sees those as.

I remember very well him making that claim as was the first sign I saw of him clearly having no clue whatsoever. Of course, my seeing the light probably had something to do with being a science undergraduate at the time

I believe it was Mike who said that the people who think ST would win tended to come from unscientific backgrounds, to say the least. And those that see that SW will win are the opposite :)

I try to stay away, because frankly, my blood pressure doesn't need the boost. But then they come up with crap like this:
Roondar wrote: You know, you can't ignore parts of the EU because they don't say what you want.
From here.

Does anyone know of a polite word that boils down to Super Hypocrisy EX3 Turbo with Hyperfighting? All I can think of is douchebaggery, which I'm pretty sure will result in the usual whining.

I know I use this analogy a lot, but it's still true: it's very much like debating religious people. They love to accuse others of something they do in spades themselves. It's like hearing a religious person say "you can't just ignore evidence", when they themselves are the grand masters of ignoring evidence. It's like going back to the schoolyard, when people would respond to accusations by simply throwing them back at you with stupid phrases like "I know you are but what am I" or "I'm rubber, you're glue. Whatever you say bounces off me, and sticks to you".

It's really notable in HOW they use their evidence. Particularily in how they "interpret/manipulate" facts and ignore anything like suspension of disbelief or consistency.

In this I think of them as being like any whackos who want to prove their point - they distort and misrepresent things to suit their purposes. Case in point, the only way they can establish any sort of consistecny in their argument is to construct it from convoluted if not contrived logic and selective interpretation.

For example, I really like how they decide to pretend the OT:ITW book somehow isn't a valid source in their arguments about the DS2 size.

Edit: For a great example of how absurd they are:
Spocky wrote: Scaling of this object varies. It is universally accepted to be between 60 and 350 kilometers in diameter, and most commonly scaled to 120 or 160 km.
"Universally accepted" by who? If I look on Wookieepedia" the stated size for the DS2 is 900 km. He states alot of "facts" without stating any sourcee or underlying logic behind it (like they do for alot of universes they"analyze" or the shit they make up for the feddies.)

In other news, its good to know they continunally harp on the same topics again and again and again in their little pocket niche-universe. I'd be worried if they developed any interests outside of the SW vs ST debates like us horrible SD.netters do.

Now, now, my good Connor, you have clearly forgotten that they do indeed branch off. Why, it was just some months back that Spocky was claiming that Feddie civilians armed with rocket boots and phasers set to 'main gun of Iowa battleship yield!1!' would effortlessly overcome an Ork Waaaaagggh! And that Federation ships, from GCSs to shuttles, would make mincemeat out of Ork ships. :D

Anyone even remotely familiar with 40K Ork combat capabilities should now be on their rears, helplessly paralyzed by derisive, jeering laughter.

Aren't those powerful enough to seriously threaten Space Marine ships, which in turn the more powerful ones are stronger than an ISD, actually being able to scatter the mass of a planet?

If memory serves Wars eats WH40K in space, the planet busters aren't DET weapons. (Mind you, I'm mainly working from stuff I've read on the board)
Doesn't change the fact that WH40K spacegoing firepower is somewhere upwards of GT level and that they would eat WARS on the ground.
Trek ground combat actually makes the Orks look smart. Orks may not be da sharpest choppa in da chest but at least they seem to understand about support weapons, combat vehicles/tanks, and artillery.

And I must have missed the episode with the Iowa main gun yield hand phaser. :D

The stupid outlier example he's thinking of was DET. But was chronically stupid, and can only be explained by assuming the crew had been huffing something potent and hallucinating.
