To all those who gave their lives that we could live free, my most profound and heartfelt thanks.
Special thanks to my grandfather, survivor of D-Day and Burma, who never talked about what he'd seen, long gone from us after his third stroke proved to be the final blow, toasting his brothers health on his brothers birthday, sliding into a coma from which he never awakened.
Be at peace grandad, the world isn't perfect but it would be a lot worse without the sacrifice of you and your brothers in arms.
So I stare wistfully at the Lightning for a couple of minutes. Two missiles, sharply raked razor-thin wings, a huge, pregnant belly full of fuel, and the two screamingly powerful engines that once rammed it from a cold start to a thousand miles per hour in under a minute. Life would be so much easier if our adverseries could be dealt with by supersonic death on wings - but alas, Human resources aren't so easily defeated.

Imperial Battleship, halt the flow of time!

Because I was remembering them:

My buddy LCpl Stephen Stacy 05July2007 Al-anbar Iraq our first and his last deployment

My old Platoon Commander Captain Warren Frank 25Nov2008 He left our unit after our last deployment and got sent back to Iraq for what turned out to be the last time.

A good friend and an amazing mentor I will never forget you guys.

VE Day. I only realised when I asked why some colleges were flying their flags.

Remembrance Day. For all the young men (and women!) who died in the disaster that was WWI, and for all those who died in WWII:

91 years since the guns fell silent. Those who fell are still remembered.

May the five remaining soldiers live the rest of their lives in peace.

November the 19th. Today, in my town, no flags flew at half mast, few if any took time to remember the sacrifices made, and no one stopped to acknowledge the service being given by troops today. So, in place of all my friends and family, I say thank you. God Speed.

For the 29 miners lost in another mine, and the far too many lost in underground and surface mines through time and the world. A moment of silence.

Early on June twenty-second
Just as the clock showed four
Kiev was bombed, they notified us
That we were now at war.

Peaceful times now are finished
Now it's time we must part
Now I must leave you, but know my dear
Faithful to you is my heart.

And you, be sure sure,
To help my feeling endure
Come out my friend, and see your friend
Off to the front lines for you

The wagons will all give a shudder
The train like an arrow shall fly
I from the wagon, you from the station
Sadly will wave our goodbye

The years will pass
And I will see you again
You will smile
Hugged to my heart
Then I shall kiss you my friend.

Have a very nice day.

Today, I would like to give a moment of recognition to a group of desperate officers who tried to save hundreds of thousands of lives, by killing their nation's leader.

sorry the bomb didn't get Hitler.
