Not if you're getting eaten alive, experimented on, enslaved, spaced, vaporized, crushed with a gravity bomb or just plain shot :P

Well, I have to say that being crushed by a gravity bomb would be a pretty funny, and very quick, way to go. That might not shake my conviction that it's a funny galaxy.

The rest? OK, yeah, for those guys it sucks.

The Bragulans doing the crap-beating would have quite a laugh though. :P

But do we have the go-ahead for Bragulan superbulletrayproof glass? That's the important question...

That would be the practice used by more modern Bragulan vacuum tube factories.

But the regular Bragulan vacuum tube factories recycle spent shell casings to use as vacuum tubes. :D

Or they could be ripped apart by space-time dilations due to a Warp bomb. :D

So, Lonestar, not having a history with these games: which world does Fairfax think of as "Earth 3?"

As I understand it, we have:

Earth (the real one that we know and love)
SDNW1: an Earthlike world that ended in massive nuclear holocaust, with the game starting at an unknown (to me) game year and ending in an unknown (to me) game year.
SDNW2: an Earthlike world that became Nova Terra, with play for SDNW2 starting in an (to me) unknown game year.
SDNW3: an Earth-identical world starting in 1925, with gameplay ending in an unknown (to me) year.

Which of these worlds does Fairfax remember? What does his personal timeline look like, in terms of entering and leaving these various worlds?

SDNW3 is what he was thinking as "Earth-3", I could have made that more clear.

I seem to recall that Fairfax died in 2020 for SDNW2, I had him "plucked from" SDNW3 sometime in the 1950s(in otherwords, it happened offscreen since SDNW3 never made it to 1930).

I don't see a point in military expansion in this game, most civilization have equally powerful forces and wars seem to be untenable unless there's a coalition. *scratches head* But since everyone is building military starships... I guess even my peaceniks will have to follow suit.

Bragulans don't seem to mind the parity ;)

I've begun with building small/light forces primarily useful for border patrol, myself, so there's that. I'm going to see about using some of my potential investment to build up sectors if possible.

Given the (very slow) economic growth implied by the size of our economies after 1000 years of expansion, that's liable to have a poor return on investment...

As for military expansion, it's liable not to work out unless you have a nearby neighbor to attack and you can bring an ally to bear, or unless your opponent is willing to write himself losing a war on equal odds (inconceivable for many of us, but possible for some). But there are a fair number of places on the map where those conditions hold.

What's impractical is conquering the galaxy one opponent at a time, and I'm just as happy about that myself.

The Imperium continues fighting its enemies, as shall be clear later.

Likely expenditure will be a full 10%, along with another 10% allocated to state funded research. Government spending is likely 30-40%.

Just an honest question fin, since you have had hostilities with the Karlacks for some time. Would it be safe to say that the Karlack/Byzantine conflict has been so far a series of Brushfire wars between periods of re-armament?

You might say that yes. Karlack infiltration and often systematic take over of worlds poses an issue with the Imperium. Containing the Karlacks in Karlack space is the priority, because the brood ... simply exists to increase its entropy...

It's actually a picture of a bear being trained to ride a bike by some Chinese carnival circus people. But I totally had to do something with it. Bragulans on bicycles! :D

Yeah, I figured it probably wasn't an actual Bragulan riding a bicycle around a track being chased by his human flunky, but that bear looks like he's so angry at the goddamn humans. Like he's about to go on a rampage.

So, uh, Shep, was that discussion from before the fleet left for Pendleton? And are your destroyers called "Battlestars"?
