Forty-plus cruise missles fire with Saddam Hussein as the target. Im not religious per say but I think there are some great quotes from Revelations which would pply to tonights events very well.

It just seems odd that hours ago the big debate was about wether we would be at war or not and debate from our foreign neighbors, now we're in the thick of it.

Even though these days it doesn't seem like we're the lan of the free, we'll always be home of the brave.

Lets see, were going to fight to remove a genocidal lunatic, with dreams of regional conquest and a propensity for murdering his own people in foul ways at the drop of a hat. We are enforcing international law and edicts from the UN, our actions are not only justifiyable , but inherently law enforcing in the international sense. Are we acting on national intrests, you bet your ass, but given that we are a sovreign nation in competition and, on occasion, conflict with other nations both friendly and hostile we must often move to safeguard thoes intrests. This is how the real world operates, deal with it.

This war, and the other that will follow, will allow you and I to sleep in continued comfort and peace as we have for the last century. We will crush thoes who oppose use, hamstring thoes to big to smash, and make sure that we are at the top of the pile, militaraly, sociallya and economically. Whats the problem? Do you all really want to return to cowering behind our Oceans, beat our swords into plow-shears and letting the world run away with itself until we are faced with another threat that is our equal ? Would you rather fight a few small brush fire wars , like Iraq, or another World War, where millions of Americans could die? Are you truly comfortable with the notion that its ok to let religious zelots who despise us be free to acquire WMD ? I really dont understand this reluctance to stand up and and take the place that history and providence has provided for us are the defacto ruling power on this little marble of dirt and water we like to call Earth...

I'm a bit of a fence-sitter here, but that paragraph is so full of facile interpretations it isn't funny. You are NOT "enforcing international law"; nowhere was any authorization for invasion ever explicitly laid down for noncompliance. And it's not as clear-cut as you say; Saddam is an asshole, but the fear is that the conflict will be extremely destructive and a great many Iraqis will lose their lives. The unknown factor is whether the cure is worse than the disease.
