So, Dead Rising 2

Post by FaxModem1 »

I'm playing it right now, and it seems quite fun. Couple of things I do wish they hadn't had in the game. The stupid mission timers. Why were these put in? It just seems like an extraordinary bad thing to put into a game, as it requires you to basically be an errand boy throughout the entire game. I don't mind doing fetch quests, I don't mind the escort missions. I mind facing down the psychos, as they can be a pill sometimes. But the stupid timers, without them, this game would be a lot easier.

Never played it. Got this one for a bargain. I rather like the story of Dead Rising 2, as I'm rather gripped by Chuck and Katey's story while at the same time there are obvious and blatant parodies of American culture.

It just struck me as a game with bad combat, bad level design and really bad mechanics. The only interesting part was the weapon modification, and it was a huge disappointment (and Dead Island did it better anyway).

What happened was they took everything from the first game that was terrible and kept it.

And then added the "combine X and Y to make Z".

And then released the only version of it you'd ever want to play as a XBLA title because if you want to play more than an hour of Dead Rising and it's not 2006, then what the fuck is wrong with you.

Didn't they basically release the game again with a different main character, and then release the XBLA thing? Crazy. Almost like they needed to recover their costs because the game sucked.

Here is all the shit:

Case Zero is an XBLA title that's a prologue that got released beforehand.
Then DR 2 came out, blah blah blah.
Then Case West, another XBLA title that is the epilogue.
Then they made Off the Record, which is DR2 except Frank West from DR1 is the main character and Chuck is an enemy.

Didn´t Dead Rising 2 not only have very long loading times but also very many places in the levels where the game had to load?

Not that I've noticed. But I'm playing it on the 360.

I played it on the ps3 at a friends and seem to remember that it was horrible. It's bin a while but a quick google search shows that other people comlain about long and numerous loading times as well.

I got Dead Rising 2 dirt cheap and Dead Island GOTY dirt cheap. Played DR2, but as mentioned, the mission timers are a pain in the arse and I never picked it up again. Dead Island on the other hand, I've only played to the main lifeguard station but seems far more enjoyable. At least in the first Dead Rising you could ignore the other mall inhabitants and leave them to die and the game didn't stop. Dead Island just seems far more enjoyable as a game and not a chore.

I played some the other day, and it does shit no other zombie game does properly. Deformable zombies where you can tear their flesh off bit by bit or burn their skin off? Coops where all bad guys have appropriate levels for all players simultaneously? Difficulty curve so even at level 50 you can die in three hits? Being able to kick someone in the head so hard they sail backwards until a gutter rips their feet off, at which point they spin around and their head pops in the ground? Outrageously terrible accents?
