The rest of the casting looks decent, however. Edmure's face has the right combination of innocence and bravery that the character needs.

Brilliant casting to have Diana Rigg play Natalie Dormer's grandmother, since they have such similar faces with those pronounced cheekbones.

GRRM certainly seems to, judging by the way he fanboys out over the casting decision in the comicon panel video.

Still no word on Ramsay Snow? Sure, he was kept off-camera in season 2, but I don't see how they could cut him from the show entirely, especially since Roose Bolton already mentioned him, even though he didn't name him. If the plan is still to spread book 3 over seasons 3 and 4, maybe they're going to save him for season 4, since the number of new characters they're introducing in season 3 is pretty large already. All I've been able to find on it is this which really just seems to be speculation.

On another note, the actress they picked for Meera Reed doesn't look quite "right" to me. But who knows how she'll look in costume and makeup. The rest look pretty good though, especially Tormund Giantsbane.

Casting videos are floating around - one of them is clearly a guy doing a Ramsay audition (couldn't be anyone else), though the scene doesn't match any I know from the books.

GRRM talks Season 3 - reason Mance Rayder casting hasn't been announced yet is because he still hasn't been cast. Urges actors in the UK to audition.

Also notes that Theon will be in Season 3.

Never seen Rome, but ha!

So he has experience being an over-sensitive twat desperate for people's approval. This should be fun.

Ramsay and Theon in season 3. Maybe they can dump all the HBO-ness on that plotline, since Reek cannot be started up without a proper breaking-in period. And it doesn't seem like HBO to shy away from the details of that. I like it. Make an entire seasonal plotline around "You have to learn your name". Does anyone think the show which pulled off the horrifying crossbow scene or the Tickler's moment in the sun last season can't do it?

Reek would actually work quite well for the beginning of season 4.

I highly recommend watching Rome. It's the first show that really showed me what HBO can do with historical drama. Its only 2 seasons. Brutus' end is very good (they do change some stuff around).

The one who got away - Dominic West was almost certainly offered the role of Mance Rayder, but turned it down due to the schedule.

I remember him from that awful movie about Romans trying to recover their totem pole in Scotland or something. It was noteworthy for two reasons: one, a scene where a guy gets a flaming arrow in the head and two, that by casting TWO Stephen Boyd clones (West and Fassbender, both of whom struck me as being a cut above what looked like SyFy material), they were turning up the Roman Movie Cliche Dispenser to 11.

Heh, Centurion. That was one nasty-ass movie. That was also directed by the guy who directed "Blackwater", Neil Marshall. Also, Centurion had Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth). :)

Latest news about returning cast:-

http://winteriscoming.net/2012/08/seaso ... more-19839

The surprising stuff is Lysa Arryn and her son. I thought we'd see them in Season 4 instead.

Rast, the douchebag NW recruit by whose douchiness we got re-introduced to Ghost in Season 1, is also back. As is Pyp.

Very big news: Ciarán Hinds, who played Caesar in Rome has been cast as Mance Rayder.

http://winteriscoming.net/2012/08/ciara ... -is-mance/

While I haven't watched much of Rome, he was very good in The Sum of all Fears.

I've been rewatching Rome since yesterday, almost done with Season 1. Cirian Hinds is awesome as Caesar, and though he's a bit old for Mance Rayder, that's never been a problem for the show before.

If it couldn't be Dominic West then I'm glad it's him, he basically disappears into his roles.

Big info dump by GRRM and others about the show at Worldcon:-

http://winteriscoming.net/2012/09/georg ... more-20136

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/0 ... 54918.html

For example:-
We began by talking about Mance Rayder's age, which has been the subject of fan speculation. Martin said he sees the character, who will be introduced to TV viewers in Season 3, as a contemporary of Quorin Halfhand and "not a young man." And as a fan of "Rome," in which Ciaran Hinds appeared as Julius Caesar, Martin said he's very happy about the casting of Hinds as the King Beyond the Wall. He also talked about the casting of Diana Rigg as the Queen of Thorns in Season 3.
When asked about the changing of the House of the Undying on the show, George says, “Sooner or later, they will have to deal with Rhaegar and Lyanna and the Mad King.” He acknowledges the practical aspects of the adaptation, and that showing prophecies may cause issues down the road if a character or part of a storyline has to be moved or changed. That isn’t an issue for George when writing a book but it is on a TV show.
He also says that Talisa is not the same character as Robb’s wife in the books, she is not the daughter of a Lannister bannerman, and she is not just a version of “Jeyne.” He is the one who suggested changing her name because Jeyne is not a Volantene name.
Vaness Taylor:-
Well, according to George and Bryan Cogman, the other writer on the show other than myself and our bosses, it is never okay to deviate. But we have to for a couple of reasons. One, as you’ve said, there’s too many characters so we have to sort of condense. The other thing is that it’s not all produceable even with the budget we have, we’re really strained. And so I think the basic rule is we make it as close as we possible can but there are times when we just can’t.
