Re: Your favorite hand-to-hand fight scene in film (spoilers
I have a few that I really like, not sure if I can really choose between several of them.
The first is the fight between Balian and Guy in the extended cut of Kingdom of Heaven.
The second is from Aleksandr: The Neva Battle. I dont know the character names because I dont speak russian and cannot find the full film because it apparently has no US distributor. The fight in question is at the end of part 1 and the beginning of part 2, though the whole battle scene it takes place in is worth watching.

In that vein, my favorite hand-to-hand fight scene is where those Delta guys shoot those Somalis in the face in Black Hawk Down.

The jian vs katana duel at the end of Rashomon was very memorable.

The final battle between Neo and Smith in the first film. I loved how they just played it up by giving Neo all those ass-kicking poses and still get his ass kicked. Throughout it all all I could think was Now? Is he going to win now? Nope. Ooh he got up- Nope.

I have to echo evilsoup and say my favorite is the 'put on the glasses' fight from They Live. I just hits all the right notes for me.
どうして?お前が夜に自身お触れるから。
Long ago in a distant land, I, Aku, the shape-shifting Master of Darkness, unleashed an unspeakable evil,
but a foolish samurai warrior wielding a magic sword stepped forth to oppose me. Before the final blow
was struck, I tore open a portal in time and flung him into the future, where my evil is law! Now, the fool
seeks to return to the past, and undo the future that is Aku...

Because the bad dubbing and ridiculous sound effects in his fight scenes remind me of the Three Stooges. I almost expect him to say "Hey Moe!" and poke his enemy in the eyes. I enjoy goofy fights as much as anyone, but Road House is way more entertaining than any Bruce Lee movie, fights and all.Darth Wong wrote:What the fuck is wrong with you people? I liked the fight between Mal and the Operative at the climax of Serenity. There's just the right mix of martial arts and pure brutality, and the "hero" wins not by being better than the villain but by refusing to surrender and, in a twist I love, by taking advantage that the villain's super-duper martial arts paralysing strike is thwarted because of an injury.
That and what happens to the Operative afterwards. Mal doesn't kill him, he destroys him completely.

An excellent, brutal bit of HtH/CQB:
One of the finest bits of fight choreography of the 80s:
It's not out yet, but I'm tentatively excited for all the fights in this:
A damn good bit of "movie fighting" using jits:
Pretty much all of taken:
The most realistic fight scene ever:
Of course this thread needs Tony Jaa and Muay Thai:

Going on a Hong Kong bender:
Project A Part 2 has some awesome fights. And hey, why not use real chillies and chilli powders for those scenes? COLOURED FLOUR IS FOR PUSSIES.
Eastern Condors final fight is just great.
And finally, one of the greatest movies in the genre - in it's entirety on YouTube. Eight Diagram Pole Fighter, starring Gordon Lau Kar Fai.
I want to end with the amazing "inscrutable off" tea ceremony from Fearless - http://vimeo.com/15687220 That's a truly great martial arts moment.

The Once Upon A Time In China series has some good fights. From old fashioned kung fu battles against imperialist stooges, to full blown fire-breathing bladed centipede dragon dance death matches.

Since weapons have been entered into the thread....
I was reminded the other night after seeing TPM in 3D, just how powerful and RIGHT this fight was.

My favorite being the final fight. Sure, it's got silly slow-mo and gratuitous sparks, but the two styles were very well used, and reflective of the characters.Argosh wrote:Jet Li vs Jet Li in "The One".

This is pre-WWII. You can sort of tell from the sketch style, from thee way it refers to Japan (Japan in the 1950s was still rebuilding from WWII), the spelling of Tokyo, lots of details. Nothing obvious... except that the upper right hand corner of the page reads "November 1931." --- Simon_Jester
