Oh get out, you're not going to have any fusion bombs. You're going to have the space equivalent of a rusty 1992 Ford Escort. You'll try to buy a fusion bomb from someone and end up some Wookiee's bitch in an Imperial prison somewhere. ^_^

Hmmm......good point.

Then I shall join the Imperial Starfleet forthwith. That way I can see new planets AND blow shit up.

And when the day comes for Star Wars to invade the Federation, I'll be watching your planet burn, and laughing.

Another advantage to SW. Joining the SW space fleets means you actually get to blow shit up, not just during your allotted holodeck time.

Pssh, we're both scrubbing the space poop deck in a space navy, but I get the satisfaction of not working for a murderous police state and get to spend my off-duty time on Boobulon Prime.

And Starfleet has fought how many wars? Let's see:

Cardassians, Borg, Klingons, Dominion. Four major conflicts in a 14 year period (TNG-Voyager).

And....

So what? SW ships are bigger, faster and a lot more deadly. That gets my vote for joining a space navy, holodecks notwithstanding.

So let me get this straight: you want to join a sci-fi setting based on how violent it is?

Bigger, faster and more deadly, meaning that in the days of Palpatine at least you're going to be in less fights.

Ideally, I would join the Imperial fleet around 10 BBY, and focus my career on pirate hunting.

Plus the title of the thread is this:

"What universe would you rather live in??"

So you have a vast array of cultures to choose from in the ST galaxy alone so why fixate on the federation when you could be a Klingon before they got turned into morons or a Romulan ect?.

You do have a better chance of survival in the Imperial Navy (assuming you don't piss off certain superiors and get Force-choked).

Especially given the size disparity between Starfleet and the Imperial Navy. Anakin can only be around so many starships to Force Choke you while spacial anomalies that maul up your ship seem to be all over the place (and no, I'm not being serious, though I wouldn't be surprised if I had a case if I were).

Survival isn't just a matter of how tough your ships are or how destructive your weapons are etc.

The Empire is one of the most dysfunctional military organisations in sci-fi history, as within a brief few years after Palpatine died the Empire was so fractured that they ruined themselves with internecine conflict. A military that would turn on itself so quickly isn't one where I'd stake my survival on. (leaving aside outliers like Thrawn who had his head screwed on straight)

In comparison, at least Starfleet and the Federation never turned on itself like the Empire did.

I was commenting on the likelihood of being Force Choked by Anakin on the Imperial side. Which is not going to happen if he isn't in your battlegroup.

I'd note that E_F was probably right on the money in choosing the early days of the Empire as the best time to serve with them. 19BBY onwards is ideal- serving for 25 years and retiring just before the Emperor's death. 8)

Man I don't even wanna be in any space navy. I wanna go be like Sisko's dad, who can apparently sit on Earth operating a restaurant and giving food away for free just because it amuses him to do so. Except instead of operating a restaurant, I want to operate a holo-suite. And instead of giving away food, I want to watch Teddy Roosevelt knife-fight Lex Luthor inside a 400-foot-wide vagina.

Dudeguyman's demented fantasies are harmless. I'm more amused by all the little napoleons posting about how they want to join the Imperial navy so that they can blow shit up.

You think I'm weird? Wait until the holodeck is invented.

I mean, look at the internet. If I were to show you a video of two women vomiting shit into each other's mouths, you'd go "2 Girls 1 Cup? This is so four years ago." Before the internet you would never imagine such events ever taking place. Maaaybe your crazy uncle would get really drunk one Thanksgiving and tell you how he saw something like that in a Vietnamese brothel in 1972, but mom would throw him out of the house for saying it and you wouldn't really believe him anyway. Now it's passe. We're all so jaded.

And you're telling me you're going to invent something that makes the user into the God of his own personal universe, and people are going to use it to re-enact Sherlock Holmes novels and boring shit like that? Like hell. The invention of the holodeck would open new frontiers of human depravity, frontiers in which my vagina-knife-fights would appear to be the work of the tamest amateur.

Somehow between now and the 24th century, everyone must have gotten real naïve. The level of shock Troi displayed when she saw Broccoli's (rather tame) holodeck shenanigans was huge... How can such prudishness have come about?

It's called Prime Time TV Slot.

And who's "Broccoli"? Do you mean Barkley?

Blow shit up....as in blow up pirates, criminals, smugglers, that kind of shit. I don't care about politics of the particular universe, I want to serve in a navy protecting people. Serving in pirate hunting squadrons in the Outer Rim serves this purpose, as well as avoiding Vader, as I don't think he was ever involved with pirate hunters.

And then, come ROTJ and Endor when I'm running through the Outer Rim as an Admiral with my own battlegroup, defect to the Rebels. Or just sit back and set up my own little fiefdom, run it fairly and when the NR turns up to try and curbstomp me, wlecome them with open arms and join them as a distinct group of worlds. Like the Ciutric Hegemony does.

If you serve in the imperial Navy you know that your targets won't all be criminals or evil-doers. Due to the nature of the regime, there's a high chance that massacring innocents or furthering the tyranny of Palpatine in some other inhumane way will be part and parcel of a military career, and should you defect or desert you'll be hunted down mercilessly.

I'd rather take a SF career over that, you've got less incentive to be a monster or supporting monsters there.

I don't know exactly what said shenanigans were, so can you elaborate?

Also, while we never saw anything explicit, DS9 indicated that Quark ran some fairly dirty holodeck programs.

And, of course, there's Risa.

Maybe's its something that varies from world to world. Vulcans are prudes. Maybe Betazoids are too. Doesn't mean the entire Federation is. And of course, there are varrying definitions of prude.

Edit: And Metahive nailed it regarding the Empire. No way I'd work for them.
