with that large chunk of the planet blown out, wouldn't the atmosphere like, be pretty much blown away? for that matter would it still be breathable? obviously it is, so maybe it was intentional. an uncontrolled explosion or whatever did that would certainly make the atmosphere totally unbreakable.

Okay, I just saw this episode and I noticed that the writers either forgot or ignored that carbon-freezing a living human being was still untested as of TESB. That's why they tested it on Han first: because Vader didn't want the emperor's prize damaged. :?

"Lord Vader, we only use this facility for carbon freezing. If you put him in there it might kill him."

That doesn't indicate the process as experimental; quite the contrary, in fact. Vader was expecting to be able to carbon-freeze Luke as a matter of course, and had to be told that the facilities on a mining colony weren't necessarily up to the task. Anything more than that is EU at best.

Filoni more or less said this outright on the commentary video on SW.com.

I just hunted that down and watched it myself. Yeah, I guess he's right. What ultimately convinced me was his comment about Vader saying "this facility is crude" which implies that he has some prior experience with other carbon-freezing chambers in order to make that comparison.

This actually pleases me since I always believed that carbon-freezing was the preferred method of imprisoning Force-users throughout the ages, but I was never able to get past the popular notion that it was untried before TESB.

Interestingly enough, it's not used in the series whenever a prisoner is taken as a trophy. Also, AOC would fit the bill for that: the whole arena stunt was partly an exhibition to show that the vaunted Jedi die just like anyone else. A hunk of black ice would ruin the gesture, I'd think.

Saw the latest episode, and enjoyed it. A few rather rough moments there: a clone trooper getting chopped in half, and another shot in the head in cold blood.

And of course...Echo went to the Great Cloning Facility in the Sky. :(

Looking forward to the conclusion next week.

This Anakin/Tarkin relationship is exactly what I would have preferred in the prequels instead of the Anakin/Palpatine crap that we got.

Apparently this episode flushes a minor bit of the EU down the toilet regarding Piell's death...but I wasn't even aware of the nature of his death anyway beforehand, so meh. Good arc overall. I hear the last episodes of the season are somehow going to tie into Republic Commando?

Yeah, apparently he originally survived Order 66 and was killed off during the Coruscant Nights series.

I have to say, the Citadel two-parter was everything this season's episodes should have been before now. In places (particularly the air ducts) the tension could be cut with a knife.

As far as I know, Lucasfilm has never tried to throw something out of "official" canon, no matter how convoluted a retcon may be required to keep it in, so we may see something like that.

That's a negative:
Star Wars.com Episode Guide wrote:•The Expanded Universe of Star Wars novels originally had Even Piell survive the Clone Wars only to be killed while as a fugitive in the early days of the Empire. Piell's death in the Citadel Mission is the character's true fate.
EDIT:

Which is not to say I care one way or the other. I've never read the Coruscant Nights series, so...

But since GL seems much more hands on with this series, I imagine they can do what they want with it. And honestly, I liked the way his death was handled here. The music especially was good, and I continue to fervently hope for a seasonal soundtrack release. This show has good music.

So who in the hell is involved in the plot in the Coruscant Nights series? Or is the whole set of books simply thrown out because someone decided to ignore existing continuity?

Apparently not George Lucas...?

Anyway, the whole set of books isn't thrown out. From Leland Chee's blog:
This certainly affects a chunk of the continuity of the first Coruscant Nights book in which Even Piell's death was originally depicted. The rest of the continuity of that series will remain intact, though this does leave open the question of who was Jax Pavan's Master.
Full blog post

At any rate, it seems that this is the canon fate of Even Piell, like it or lump it.

Well, tbh I prefer it that way. The EU kinda diminished Order 66 by apparently having half the order survive.

Having finnallly watched the episode I have to admit that I did actually like the death sequence as portrayed here. I also have to agree with the comments on the dynamic between Tarkin and Anakin as well as with the rest of the Jedi. It was also interesting to see the conflict between Anakin and the other Jedi in terms of how to fight the war.
RogueIce wrote:Apparently not George Lucas...?
I was meaning in universe, as in what Jedi will take over Piell's role in the story. Unless something changes, Eeth Koth should be alive and well at the proper time and hasn't been used somewhere else or officially killed off yet as he was originally thought to be dead as of Geonosis in the earlier continuity before being brought back for the episode Grievous Intrigue.
Srelex wrote:Well, tbh I prefer it that way. The EU kinda diminished Order 66 by apparently having half the order survive.
I have to generally agree regarding many of the stories. Although I still enjoyed many of the depictions of the aftermath of Order 66(Especially Dark Lord), It does seem rather easy for Jedi to escape Order 66. Contrast this with the movie where two council members are killed by their clone soldiers. To me the most irritating of the escapes comes from The Force Unleashed, where Shaak Ti escapes the Jedi Temple despite Anakin having been stated to be gunning for her in the novelization. And despite the fact that she is a council member Vader doesn't find her until just before ANH and instead of going himself, he sends his secret apprentice to do the job instead. At least for most of the novels Vader is directly involved in the years following ROTS.

I might be wrong, since its been a while since I've read it, but didn't Anakin explicitly kill Shaak Ti in the Revenge of the Sith novelization? And don't novelizations outrank games on the canon scale?

I don't think so. Confusingly enough, there was a deleted scene where she was explicitly killed by Grievous, and then there was a bit where she was killed in the Lego Star Wars game by Anakin, which may have given you the idea.

The ROTS novelization usually isn't that explicit about those sorts of things. It's been awhile since I read it, but I believe the book says something to the effect of that she went into her chambers, Anakin arrives, enters her room, and leaves sometime later to continue the purge.

No, she doesn't appear once Anakin goes dark. She meets him as he's leaving, he runs away, and she doesn't appear directly in the novel again.

Just saw the last episode (you guys might be waiting for it to air in the states?).

Fun EU addition - the flak/flechette gun from the Jedi Knight games. You'll spot it early on in the last episode. Ahsoka dodges it :)

EDIT: there's also a KOTOR-style Mandalorian helmet in a trophy room.

I liked how they portraied Anakins attachment to Ahsoka and how her disappearance turned him into being obsessed with finding/saving her.

And there was the special guest star! Spoiler
:luv: Chewbacca! :luv: Surviving the violent crash of the ship that brought him to the planet (Ahsoka just had to draw out the fight with a Trandoshan and his flak gun inside the cockpit). Building an emergency beacon out of spare parts of a crashed ship.
What I didn't like: Spoiler
What I do not really get is the scene with the Trandoshan (son of the hunt leader) who hunted Kalifah and Ahsoka.
Kalifah had him in a Force choke and Ahsoka told her "Don't kill him in anger" or something like that.

Of course, the sensible thing to do would have been either to knock him out or to fling him of the tree... or just to kill him off-screen with Kalifah
saying "Then necessity will do..." but:

She simply release him. Let him fall to the ground and let him regain his breath to alarm the other Trandoshans.
The moment she let him go I knew he would do that.

Are Jedi Younglings really such goody-two-shoes to disregard that this Trandoshan is out to kill them?!
They aren't ignorant of the fact that these Trandoshan hunt them to kill them as sport!
