I never really considered clapping to be a bad thing. I only mentioned it because of my recent viewing of 'The Karate Kid' remake (which is actually pretty decent), the audience I saw it with loved the shit out of it, everyone kept clapping and cheering throughout the tournament, which didn't really distract me.
Also thinking back to 'The Dark Knight', moments like:
Gordon turning out to be alive got an applause.
Batman motorcycle turn off the wall got an applause.
And when the movie ended people clapped.
Wanted's "Fuck you" message with the keyboard.
I almost forgot about Kick-Ass, a lot of moments during that movie deserved some kind of reaction if not just laughter and holy shit.
Ending of Avatar (meh).
I never saw Marley and Me in theaters, but apparently that caused some tears in theaters (maybe scream kids). I waited for it to come on HBO because there was no way I was gonna see a movie with a dog that dies at the end on Christmas.
My only bad experiences were:
A minute long sssshhing fight that took place during 'Iron Man' 1.
Another sssshhhhing fight during 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'.
Someone that was mentally handicapped kept moaning during Ninja Assassin.
Crying kid during 'Max Payne'.
And a few more all of which were negligible.
The worst was watching 'Half Blood Prince' with some friends.
- Yelled out where's the scar a few times during the movie.
- Clapped when Dumbledore died.
- Pointed a lazer at the movie screen.
That I can complain about.
It's really not a big deal.

HBO = WB, FOX, Universal, Dreamworks, and more.
Showtime = Lionsgate and a few others, I just can't think of them.
Starz = Disney, Columbia Pictures, Summit, and more.
Though you're on your own with the subtitles (do you really need them THAT much).
Except that you have to wait a year, and can't pause and shit. Sure DVDs and On Demand sometimes are available in as little as 90 days, but there's no reason it can't be set up to have a recently produced movie available. I would probably pay the same fee to see a recently released movie at home, and end up paying to see a lot more of them than I do now if they offered this.
You can if you use their on demand services (which come free with it)
Temujin wrote:I also think movie theaters are going to see a crunch in the coming years, and as more stuff becomes essentially downloadable / on demand, so will the traditional movie channels, not to mention crap channels that play heavily edited and censored movies.
Watching 'Superbad' on cable almost made me cry. I can't wait to see how they butcher 'The Hangover' (until then I'll just enjoy it on HBO).
