On this note, do any of you have a place were you can get a wide selection of soft drinks in your town? Because recently a place called Dingos opened up in winnipeg where you have a fairly extensive range of Soft Drinks, including a brand that i have only seen in Britain in Kew gardens (albiet at $4.50 a bottle).

Non-alcoholic beverage of choice for me is the classic thick, decadant Dutch Chocolate Mocha with real-dairy whipped cream.

After that I have a variety of faves of lesser stature-- in no particular order, Virgil's products, Jones, Rooibosch Tea, root beer, chocolate milk... the list goes on. I am not a big fan of the big-name sodas because, like mass-marketed beer in America, any distinctive taste/flavor that makes it unique or interesting is washed out to have a broad-based appeal (maybe "appeal" isn't the right word. I think the right description isn't so much "appeal" as "a lack of anything potentially offensive"). I only drink the big-name sodas if I am using them as mixers for various alcohols, which is outside the purview of this topic.

But small sodas companies, unafraid of bold flavors that might not go well in some regions, are always fun to experiment with. I get most of mine at the Boise Co-op, or Powell's Candies.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

Well, since it's the season again, I love Safeway brand Light Eggnog. I can't drink much of the normal stuff, it's way too heavy, but the light stuff is gooood. I like to freeze a couple cartons so I can enjoy throughout the winter.

I also drink ridiculous amounts of chocolate milk, and prefer the Parmalat brand (Beatrice) over others, although Lucerne (Safeway brand) will do, and avoid Dairymilk's, because it tastes like cardboard whether it's in a carton or bottle.

Nesquick is good too.

I really dig root beer, too. The guy who owns Mountain Crest Brewing Company here in Alberta recently bought a soda maker in Wisconsin, and they make some nice root beer.

EDIT: And of course, there's Canada Dry Ginger Ale (Made from Real Ginger, according to the can), which I drink all the time with fish and some red meats. I love that shit, and you'll never find a bottle of Schweppe's in this house.

EDIT: Oh man how could I forgot the life-sustaining goodness of tangerine-flavoured Gatorade? God, I love that stuff in the summer.

Zor wrote:There have been several threads on the matter of your preference in Booze, but i was wondering on what not alcoholic beverages you find to be good.

For me, i have a fondess for Orange Juice (preferably with pulp and not from concentrate), hot chocolate, Ice Tea (AriZona in praticular), green tea (preferably with mint), mango juice and Dr Pepper. I also liked Vanilla Coke (damn them for taking that off the market). I can't stand coffee and i consider bottled water to be an utter rip off in any place with decent public utilities.

But enough of me, what is your prefered non alchololic beverage?

Zor
Bolthouse Farms Mango Lemonade. That stuff is like fruit-juice crack.

There's also Coca-Cola, but there's so much guilt associated with it that I rarely drink any.

Coca-Cola(usually one made with real sugar....which can take some digging to find), or ginger beer. Water after a workout or just a hard day though.

To be honest? Tap water.
There is nothing better if you are thirsty, it is cheap - and i am very lazy, so i do not have to buy any bottled water.

Otherwise, all sorts of tea and hot chocolate.

Favourite non-alcoholic drink? It's a dead heat between tigernut orxata and rice chicha.

Mexican authorities rightly consider corn syrup to be unfit for human consumption, so any Coca-Cola made in Mexico is guaranteed to have real sugar. Because of the difference in taste, said Coke actually gets imported into the US.

I would like to point out that a good Peach Soda goes down nicely, i bought one on the way home from university. They used to sell Peach iced tea in winnipeg but they stopped doing it a year back (although it was still on the shelves in England), can you still get it where you are?

That is usually the Coca-Cola I do get. It just takes a bit of digging to find a reliable source in DC sometimes, but I do stock up when the one of the grocers gets it. I just enjoy the taste better.

What's with all these canned, bottled and processed products? One thing I realized I missed about Asia are fresh drinks that don't come from Jamba Juice... The freshly squeezed sugar cane juice I had in Vietnam was the shit ... (don't add ice or you'll have diarrhea for weeks unless local) ... Ok ok, enough with the Asian-show off, my favorite drink is actually ... a Latte. The expresso type. The concentrated flavor is the best. I do know the basics of Chinese teas, expensive show-off ones a little bit, but it's more a technical appreciation than actually "i need to drink this all the time" kind of thing....

I used to love Cheerwine as a kid, but have only bought it once in 20 or so years since it's hard to find outside North Carolina and cherry soda isn't worth some great quest.

I'm a guy of fairly simple tastes. In terms of non-water drinks, Sprite usually does it for me most of the time, although I also don't mind Coca-Cola. Juices are good.

One of my favorite drinks, though, is the tap water at my mom's place. Something about the water is just fantastic, and I'm not the only person who thinks that - a couple of my friends who tried it also thought it was really good.

In no particular order, tea with sugar and no milk, and Irn-Bru, out a glass bottle, ideally. The proper stuff; if it's spelled "Iron Brew" it's a horrible travesty.

I don't mind Coke and/or Pepsi (I might be able to taste the difference if I tried them both together, but they're not that distinct to me). The odd green tea with a chinese meal is fine, too.

My local indian restaurant doesn't have an alcohol licence, so it serves a selection of soft drinks instead. I quite like their fizzy lychee juice - happily, Tesco stocks it too.

I developed a bit of a taste for Minute Maid still lemonade on holiday in Florida. Some places made it with the local tap water, though, which made it taste vile. :(
