What is the greatest '80s movie?

What is the greatest '80s movie?
Like the title asks. The 80's were the hey day for John Cusack, the brat pack, Charles Bronson, karate/ninja movies, and some outstanding action movies. It is home to things like Scarface, Batman, Conan the Barbarian, and ET. So what is the greatest '80s movie?
I'm gonna go with Die Hard.
I'm gonna go with Die Hard.

Re: What is the greatest '80s movie?
The correct answer is "Top Gun"
It was the virtual epitome of Bruckheimmer/Simpson's over the top spectacle movies. It had everything you could want in a semi-homoerotic epic of fighter jocks squaring off in the tight confines of a steamy locker room...I mean a battle against the evil Soviets.

I've got 3 nominations:
Commando
Goonies
Labyrinth
I think those three movies sum up the 80's quite nicely.

So I'm guessing based on the nominations so far that we can exclude non-action classics such as Ferris Bueller?

Aliens. Still the best military sci-fi ever committed to film, much imitated and referenced by later movies and computer games.

Escape from New York. It has a bad guy who drives a car with a chandelier, and Kurt Russel with an eye patch, a mullet, tight blue cameo pants and a black tank top. It's one of the funniest movies ever made, and it wasn't even trying to be funny.

Re: What is the greatest '80s movie?
No votes for "Rambo: First Blood Part II?" It seemed to be the basis of American ideas about the outside world for the next 20 years, after all. I'm pretty sure US foreign policy today is still largely based on its world view. The fact that it was badly written and stupid is a bit of a black mark against it, but it's still highly significant.

Dammit! Life of Brian is a year too old to enter! I would have gone with Meaning of Life, but the movie(s) I have sitting by it on the shelf is worthy: Gremlins! (I see both Gremlins movies as a single entity)

So it's US foreign policy to bend over and take it up the ass from Soviet CubaTroopers until Patrick Swayze rides to the rescue? I mean, I know The Swayze is cool and all, but he'd have to get pretty worn out after the first couple dozen times.Gandalf wrote:I always imagined US foreign policy being closer to Red Dawn, or possibly Rocky IV.Darth Wong wrote:No votes for "Rambo: First Blood Part II?" Also, if not Buckaroo, I'd have to nominate Real Genius, Weird Science, Princess Bride, or any of the classic movies that are from the 80's, but you might just forget about that while watching.
Also, any movie that depicted the future as essentially 'The 80's, with STUFF!'
