Ssi-ruuk vs Gorn

Post by TithonusSyndrome »

Sub Kirk in the arena for a Ssi-ruuk of equivalent military standing and make him fight the other brutish reptile. Discuss.

If I remember the Gorn was limited to a waddle and the good old hug attack. (almost like it was a man in a cheap rubber suit)

The Soul eating lizards should be much faster and be able to eat kirk either with their sharp teeth or their long claws. (How did these people develop space travel again?)

On the other hand the lizard is likely going to be too afraid of dying away from its home world to do anything other than cower in fear, a handy trait when launching a galactic invasion. Also Kirk may try having sexual intercourse with it.

You misunderstand; this is not Kirk vs Ssi-Ruuk, this is Gorn vs Ssi-Ruuk. Given what you have put forward, I agree that the little lizard is probably going to do much better than the big Gorn-rilla.

Oh, my mistake.

For the lizard battle I'd still stick with the SsiRuuk, its faster has more natural weapons (Gorn teeth and claws look rather blunt) and may have the mass advantage seeing as their as tall as a man even though their hunched over from being a dinosaur.

Religiously inspired cowardice still applies though.

If I recall correctly, the Gorn captain had a knife on him.

Yes, he made one out of what looked like obsidian.

IIRC the Ssi-Ruvi were described as being able to move a little better than a cheap kaiju knock off.

Im not sure the religious background would be of much concern once the Ssi-Ruuk realizes he outclasses the Gorn in the dexterity department by a good margin. 8)

Didn't the Gorn tear a large branch from a tree with one hand to use as a club? That would make it pretty damn strong. (Or was that from the novelization of the episode? It's been a long time.)

I don't recall that, but I do recall him lifting a boulder the size of a workout ball over his head and hurtling it at Kirk, who was fifteen feet away AND on the top of a rock face. Mind you, that raises some concerns about why he couldn't liquefy Kirk once he had him in his grasp...

The Gorn wins because the Ssi Ruuk won't risk dying away from a consecrated planet ;-), of course that's a pretty cheap answer.

Both species seem very similar, although I suspect that the Ssi Ruuvi might have a slight weight advantage but I cannot confirm this. Wookiepedia has the Ssi Ruuk at 350kg, but I don't own a copy of the Essential Guide to verify this. The Gorn do not appear to weigh that much in their very limited depictions, that might end up being the Ssi Ruuk's big advantage in a fight though.

The gorn in the enterprise Alternate universe episode was CGI and moved pretty stealthy. he dropped on Archer and his guard like he was a velociraptor in a batman suit.
They killed him by increasing gravity to ten times earth, at which point he became too heavy to lift himself and Eveel Archer shot him in the head with a maco's Rifle.

Wow, I'm pretty certain the Gorn from enterprise appeared a few times in the power rangers. Just look at his smile, he's almost cute.

Obviously on that planet rocks have a high concentration of naturally occurring polystyrene.
