On Friday, 13th I defended my Dr.-Ing. thesis (about equivalent to Ph.D.). Finally.

I have to wait a bit until I get my diploma, but then you all have to call me "Herr Doktor Schneider".

Just kidding (about the latter part)!!!

I hope that, as far as my job allows, I will have more time for Trek, for my site and for the message board than in the previous few weeks.

It would appear that they have a rather serious fundie infestation there. One of the greatest things about Trek has always been the way it treats religions (I just love McCoy's line in STII about Genesis being a myth), ST's attitude was undoubtedly influenced by the fact that Roddenberry was an "active" atheist and these dumb-fundie-trekkie-fucks are mocking him because of it.

A quick glance shows that it's not nearly as pathetic as many other message boards (sci-fi dedicated or not) that I have seen. I even saw several posters utilizing proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization. That alone garners them a plus in my book.

It's translated from German, this is what it says under study:
Study:
Study of computer science at the University of Dortmund, emphasis of information systems and artificial intelligence, particularly learning procedures.
Nebenfach management economics, emphasis operating computer science.

So it would seem to me Bernd is a PhD in computers and IT, why this has been such a secret(atleast it has appeared as such) I do not know, but there it is.

It is not correct, according to the FAQ on Ex Astris Scientia Bernd studied at the University of Siegen, not at the University of Dortmund as the link you posted claims (different Bernd probably).
And according to the same page he studied electrical engineering.

So what is a "Dr.-Ing."? Does anyone have any idea?

Ex Astris Scientia is however one of the best ST site's there is, so the guy is doing something right.

I can't stop laughing at the number of people who truly HATE Mike Wong. As far as I can tell, the man has done nothing but logically analyze a series of science fiction universes, and discuss their merits and technologies to the best of his ability.

I can't begin to understand what the PROBLEM of most of his detractors are, outside of raw stubborn jealousy that he holds the high ground, and their 'fan favourites' can't measure up.

Frankly, the people I've seen there are SOOO stupid as to be not worth our time. With G2K, it's different because he actually tries to present a case. The people on that site don't even bother. They just assume that the two sides are equal and leave it at that. Their complaints about Mike are ludicrous, and their debating style is a pathetic mixture of "WAAAAH! They must be equal," and "Star [Trek or Warz] wins cuz the other one sucks."

That's true. That's a great point. I had never thought of it that way. I seriously hadn't. Mike hasn't done a damn thing except to analyze the two different universes from a scientific perspective, and they DO hate the man for it.

Actually, that bothers me. It really does. I don't mean anything against Mike, but I don't want to be lumped in as a dogmatic follower of the man himself.

I could, and have, watched the movies and performed ALL OF THE CALCULATIONS FOR MYSELF. Mike's just gone one step farther and published them online. But I needn't ever have seen his site to arrive at the same conclusions he has. It's like being a rabid follower of Bill Gates just because I could program Windows from the ground up, or a rabid follower of Betty Crocker because I can make pancakes from scratch.

Dammit, I want the rabid Trekkies to recognize me as my own individual kind of devil!
