Hi guys
A thought for the whole instant runoff thing. We could quite easilly deal with the problem of poll dilution by simply having the 'not guilty' option require 41% to pass. If it fails then the vote goes to instant run-off between the remaining options.
Any thoughts?

The problem is that you only need 60% for a ban poll; you can title with 50%.Spyder wrote:Hi guys

Therefore I propose the modification that though Not Guilty has to get 50% (always err on the side of mercy) to pass, if the collective sum of the pro-guilt votes doesn't reach 60% then permban should be auto-dropped as an option.

There may be a really simple way of doing this that just occurred to me.Spyder wrote:Hmm...
How is,
Not Guilty 50% - pretty much as standard.
Perm ban votes auto fallback to runner up if they fail to achieve 60% (another option is they become temp ban votes)
We could just do normal polls, and then those people who chose to could state what they voted for and then list their selections in order of precedence, say, like this:
Permban,
Tempban,
WTPF,
RSB,
Not Guilty,
Abstain.
You vote Permban.
You then have the option of making a post which proposes the following:
2. Tempban.
3. WTPF.
4. RSB.
Or something like that.
Basically, we need some kind of system which prevents deadlock.

Honestly I think having a guilty/not guilty followed by a punishmet thread is the best option. Along with this rewrite the rules which would require a minimum 50% +1 to convict and 60% to even have permaban as an option for the punishment thread. The punishment thread would then be decided as a Class C vote.
Until Starglider finishes testing out and finding a way to integrate auto run-off elections then I think this is the best system.

Maybe we could work prefs into the polling options.
So if we have poll options as follows:
Permaban Only
Permaban Or Consent to Most Votes
Tempban Only
Tempban Or Consent to Most Votes
Title Only
Title Or Consent to Most Votes
Title Only
Abstain
Not Guilty
#1: If Not Guilty goes over 40%, permaban is discounted as an option and the second most popular option is implimented. (If no other options were voted for the decision can then be revoted via run-off poll)
#2: Votes containing "Consent to Most Votes" if they fail to achieve simple majority they are then applied to whichever punishment option has achieved the most votes.
"I would this person to be titled WTPF, however I do not want my vote to prevent other options from being enacted"
#3: 'Or' and 'only' votes are added for their specific purpose (e.g 3 Title Or + 3 Title Only votes count as 6 votes for a custom title)
#4: Run off votes if we still manage to deadlock (e.g. 51% votes Permaban only and there aren't enough CMV votes to drag it over 60%)
So if we have poll options as follows:
Permaban Only
Permaban Or Consent to Most Votes
Tempban Only

As far as I'm aware, Starglider's finished. I think we were waiting to hear from Mike about sandbox testing on his network.CmdrWilkens wrote:Honestly I think having a guilty/not guilty followed by a punishmet thread is the best option. Sometimes, as with, say, Wicked Prince, I would like to see a tempban + title, to express "sever-displeasure-short-of-permabanning".
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
