A father who ordered the killing of his daughter after finding out she had a boyfriend has been jailed for life.
Banaz Mahmod, 20, was raped and tortured before being strangled and buried in a suitcase in Birmingham.
Her Iraqi Kurd father Mahmod Mahmod, 52, of Mitcham, south London, will serve at least 20 years in jail.
Her uncle Ari Mahmod, 50, who helped arrange her murder, and killer Mohammed Hama, 30, got life terms and will serve at least 23 and 17 years respectively.
Her death had been ordered after her affair with fellow Kurd Rahmat Sulemani was discovered.
This was a barbaric and callous crime
Judge Brian Barker
Banaz asked police for help four times but was not taken seriously. Five police officers face the threat of disciplinary action as a result of the trial.
She even gave officers of list of five people she suspected would harm her and Mr Sulemani, which included the name of Hama, from West Norwood, south London, who pleaded guilty to murder before last month's trial.
Three other men named on the list have fled abroad.
The Common Serjeant of London, Judge Brian Barker, said: "This was a barbaric and callous crime.
Banaz Mahmod Babakir Agha
Banaz was tortured and raped before she was killed
"You are hard and unswerving men to whom apparently the respect from the community is more important that your own flesh and blood."
Mr Sulemani and Banaz's sister Bekhal, 22, made moving statements to the court during which they broke down several times.
They both said they were haunted by nightmares of her death and their lives would never be the same again.
After being taken to hospital following a previous attempt on her life, Mr Sulemani recorded her fears on his mobile phone.
Murder confession
The film was played in court and helped convict her killers.
She disappeared in January last year, and her body was found 100 miles away buried in a garden three months later.
Prosecutor Victor Temple, QC, told the judge during Thursday's pre-sentencing hearing that Hama had confessed to a friend that Banaz's ordeal lasted two hours and she was subjected to rape and other degrading sexual acts.
Banaz was garrotted for five minutes but took half an hour to die as Hama stamped on her neck to "let her soul out".

Only total isolation will protect society from these inhuman sadists.

I'm sick and tire of Middle Eastern fuckwits coming to the West and then thinking they can transplant their barbaric customs wherever they want. Good riddance to these fuckers.

Why is it so goddamned hard to get little assholes like you to admit it when you fuck up? Is it pride? What gives you the right to have any pride?

Nonsense Edi, they'd be perfectly tolerant of our ways if we moved over there and behaved as our culture allowst.Edi wrote:I'm sick and tire of Middle Eastern fuckwits coming to the West and then thinking they can transplant their barbaric customs wherever they want. Good riddance to these fuckers.
How the hell do you weed people like this out of a (decent) society? Why are they even there if they don't want to live by those rules?

I'm perhaps even more shocked that the police didn't bother responding to this, especially considering:
As for the killers...if they are serving life, their parole can be blocked by the surviving relatives, right?
They tried to kill her multiple times, she begged for help and the police didn't bother looking into the matter, or help her flee? If this doesn't result in heads figuratively rolling, I'd be very surprised. After being taken to hospital following a previous attempt on her life

What was going through their heads when they thought that torturing, raping and then murdering a teenaged daughter would fly in a Western country? And these Middle Eastern and Southern Asian fathers occasionally conduct so-called "honour killings", because they want their daughters to fuck a male relative instead of breeding outside the "clan" so to speak (thus stunting the gene pool and raising retarded blokes who want to kill girls for no real reason ).

This particular part made me sick to my stomach.Banaz was garrotted for five minutes but took half an hour to die as Hama stamped on her neck to "let her soul out".
It really boggles my mind to imagine a place where brutally destroying the life of a young woman for having normal social relations constitutes preserving honour.
Real power cannot be given, it must be taken.

Capital punishment doesn't work so well towards discouraging future crime and tends to be generally more expensive in the long run, according to virtually every statistic published. Also, the tough-guy routine bullshit is really really fucking old.the wicked prince wrote:It is not about being a better person, it is about justice served. If you wanted to do that, then just toss him into a concrete cell where he'll rot for the rest of his life. Cheaper and it gives them plenty of time to think over what they've done, since they'll literally have nothing else to do.the wicked prince wrote:It is not about being a better person, it is about justice served. If you're going for justice served, just kill him, painlessly if possible. Less uncertainty over his eventual fate (what if some politician 20 years down the line decides to parole or, worse, pardon him?) and less overall cost.Matt Huang wrote:If you wanted to do that, then just toss him into a concrete cell where he'll rot for the rest of his life. I'm looking at this more from a deterrent point of view. Executions get huge amounts of publicity and fierce debate, but a religious nutjob is probably quite likely to believe that he'll be rewarded in heaven for his actions. Give him the prospect of spending the remainder of his natural life instead, and you have avoided the ire of the people who say that the death penalty is unfair/cruel/morally wrong etc. (and will try to turn the thing into a circus); denied the zealot his believed shot at paradise; and sent a message that if you commit a crime, we'll still take your life away from you, it just won't be as quick or painless as you thought it would be.Molyneux wrote:If you're going for justice served, just kill him, painlessly if possible.
