My Emails on its way man, it is one of the best sci fi shows on.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

I've only seen 1 episode in full, the one where they broke into the hospital ... are they all that good?
Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.

Yes, it is a show based on characters not techno babble. It is very entertaining with charaters who are not sterotypical. Even the ones who are suppost to be sterotypical will suprise you.

What I don't understand is why with these shows the fans don't actually do anything other than whinge.

How many fans signed the Farscape petition 20,000?

Assume that only 10,000 are HARDCORE fans. Get each of them to donate $5 a week to a "Farscape-fund" that is then used to keep the show running at minimal expense to the studio's who cut it. Give them a reason to keep it going.

I don't think it works that way. The producers are looking to make money off of it. I don't think that even that much would pull enough of a profit to make it work.

Only advertising dollars really amount to any big change.

The budget for a single episode of Farscape would likely have been about 50,000 to 60,000.

By donating that much cash the fans can minimalise studio expenditure which leads to them having a MASSIVELY increased profit margin.

If they still don't go for it. Convince them to sell the rights to an indy network and do the same thing.

Except for the part where it costs 1.5 million dollars to produce an episode.

It is a nice idea though. I just don't think that it would work realistically. Not including free riding problems(that's an economic term).

Well, on Save my Program 20K people voted to 'keep Firefly on the air'

Even if you don't watch the show, send a postcard or e-mail to UPN asking them to pick up the show. If it dies, the only watchable sci-fi on broadcast TV will be Stargate SG-1

You don't want Enterprise and Andromeda to win, do you?

I never found it that interesting. If it dies then so be it, I gave up on broadcast Sci Fi a long time ago.

At first I thought it was averaged, really had the cowboy show with a space ship feel. But it has grown on me. I love how it makes fun of steriotypical movie/show situations, like in the episode two fridays ago, where the chick had to decide between her husband and captain and picks husband before the bad guy can even finish talking, or:

*very weak tortured captain is fighting co-cormentor, shipmates run up to see him fighting him after shooting thier way through*

Chick: Wait, this is a fight the captain has to fight on it's own.

Captain: *strained* No it's not.

Chick: Oh okay then.

*She and the other two promply unload their weapons into him*

Plus, in last night's episode, there was such an excellant scene:

A bounty hunter is loose on the ship and stalking the crew. He's knocked out the captain and the preacher, tied up the mechanic, and is holding the doctor at gunpoint.

Now, the mercenary tough guy wakes up in the middle of this, puzzled by he ruckus. Hanging next to him is a sheet of cloth. He rips the sheet away, revealing a massive arsenal of rifles, handguns, and various other instruments of destruction.

However, instead of grabbing a weapon and saving the day, he drapes himself in the sheet.

And goes back to sleep. Great, great moment.

Oh, and there was this other great line:

"A psychic? That sounds like something out of science fiction!"
"You live on a space ship, dear."

I wasn't too impressed with the first episode of Firefly but I've really grown to like it. My reception for FOX is crap and I still enjoyed last night's episode.

River running around picking up on everyone's thoughts was great. She's such a trippy character.

Another thing I like about it is that it's not all perfect tech like star trek and others. The firefly(Seridipity or Scerenity? I can't remember) its a very polutating ship, when ever it speeds off you see a green gas cloud left behind. Also it has little to no energy weapons, but still uses bullet guns, which I think is more consievable weaponry in the next couple of hundred years for handheld weaponry. Thats also why I liked Aliens, their travel was so slow that they used cryogenic freezing, and again used a little more advanced guns. And smart fucking characters, kicking the Claw dude into the engines, right when you think he is going to become a reoccuring character(I'll hunt you to the ends of the universe) BAM! One of the best Sci-Fi TV-Shows I've ever seen.

Yep. And when the captain was being held captive?

No Trekish technoblabble. No Picard-esque negotiations, no DS9-style meeting sessions.

They locked, they loaded, and they blew the living fuck out of the captor's HQ.

His name his Jayne,

and here's his song:

Jayne \
The man we call Jayne \
He robbed from the rich and he gave to the poor \
Stood up to the Man and he gave him what for \
Our love for him now ain't hard to explain \
The Hero of Canton, the man they call Jayne \
Our Jayne saw the Mudders' backs breaking \
He saw the Mudders lament \
And he saw the magistrate taking \
Every dollar and leaving five cents \

So he said, "You can't do that to my people" \
He said, "Can't crush them under your heel" \
Then strapped on his hat \
and in five seconds flat stole everything Boss Higgins had steal \
He robbed from the rich and he gave to the poor \
Stood up to the Man and he gave him what for \
Our love for him now ain't hard to explain \
The Hero of Canton, the man they call Jayne

Now here is what separates heroes \
From common folk like you and I \
The man they call Jayne \
He turned 'round his plane \
And let that money hit the sky...

Well, he's got his own theme song. How cool is that?

Right now I think Firefly's only hope is UPN or another station. When FOX has a show that gets a slow start, not really a shitty start, they don't even give it a full season to build up fan base before they cancel it. Or if it even slightly slows in the ratings, they immediately can it. They did it to Undeclared(last couple of episodes were good), Titus(One of the greatest comidies around, up their with the Simpsons, Family Guy, and Married with Children, won a award or two and was cancelled 3 episodes into it's third season). Even fan support can't stop them. When Family Guy got the axe, an online petition got over 100,000 signatures. Not coming back.

Unfortunately, and it shows how Fox doesn't care, that wasn't the original two hour pilot. They will be showing that next week I think.

Though I did like it. C'mon how could you not like a line like "Time for some thrillin' heroics." :D

How much longer will it be on FOX? I haven't seen it, but I might try to catch an episode. Unfortuantely, I don't get UPN on my TV.

It was good enough that I watched again and now I really like the show. If I saw it again I'd probably like the first episode more now just because I'm into the show and characters more.

I am looking forward to seeing the two hour "pilot" next week.

Probably only 3 more weeks. I think there were 13 episodes made and they have shown 11 of them. The pilot is next week. I would advise watching that one. Since it is the pilot you won't need any knowledge beforehand.

I've watched it a few times and I enjoyed it.

What I find interesting about this show is that there is no sound in space. The creaters took a big risk doing that. I like it.
