Yesss. I was particularly happy when I discovered that portion of the Botcon website last year. Little Daniel, all grown up and Wheelie surrounded by thousands of Sharkticons....only one thing to do....BOOMZShade wrote:
You should be happy to find out that Hasbro let Botcon officially kill off Daniel AND Wheelie during Botcon 2001.

Not even Sharkticons. Fucking NIGHTBIRDS. That lameass Earth-built female-looking ninja robot that Megatron fell in love with, only mass produced this time. THEY were behind Daniel and Wheelie's death. Man, that was a great moment.Shadow WarChief wrote:Yesss. I was particularly happy when I discovered that portion of the Botcon website last year. It even had a Sky Garry cameo.

After selling out those same friends to Megatron in exchange for a mech suit. He may have grown a spine later on in the series, but the fact remains that he already had one at the end of Beast Wars (and he wasn't particularily well-armed back then, either) and somehow it mysteriously disappeared some time before Beast Machines began.Shadow WarChief wrote:What snivelling coward? He walked into armies of Vehicons with no weapons with only his friends to protect him.
The only thing that changed was that, instead of being a psycho hippy obsessed with making Cybertron organic, he became a psycho hippy obsessed with making Cybertron techno-organic, and people stopped pointing out his psycho hippy-ness.And they brought this up. They explicity said Optimus's psychotic hippyness was affecting his ability to lead well. Cheetor tried to depose him. Tankor took advantage his reliance on Oracle-visions. In the second season he admitting that he was fucked in the head for all of the first season and started to be a leader again instead of just a mouth piece for the matrix.

@everyone - I've never see BW or BM. I'm going largely on the Ultimate Guide thingy, and a friend owns BW. BM just seems to have a lame premise.
I see two failing points with the movie; humans and bad characterisation. The humans could be crap on a Broderick Godzilla level, and if they mess the characters up for the sake of plot or accessability the movie will suck. But X2 fills me with hope; I fucking hate Xmen bullshit but that movie was almost watchable. Except for the mansion's security, and threatening the POTUS, but hey

Actually, there's a couple of instances of glowing effects in the cartoon that indicate mass transfer: In the Season 1 episode A plague of Incecticons, Kickback's gun appears in his hands with a flash of purple light (complete with sound effect). Also, as we all know Optimus' trailer has a habit of disappearing inexplicably, but in one instance of Season 2, at the trailer appeared when transforming to vehicle mode (moving into frame from the left), its was lit with glowing yellow edges (which faded in the following 2 or 3 frames). And let's not all forget how many tapes Soundwave can hold in his chest at one time.Bug-Eyed Earl wrote:I have an idea regarding MEgatron turning into a gun-
have a blur of color come off of him as he shrinks to show he is temporarily shedding enough mass to shrink that much.
It's not mass transfer, but it's a good visual indicator of how it could occur.
So there's definitely visual indicators already of mass transfer of equipment and tramsformation components in G1. And Beast Wars relies on it even more to swap around all those components. I really hope they reconsider for the movie, since it's such a major part of Transformers technology and continuity.
Oh, and Beast Wars uses the ret-conned continuity; the major events of the cartoons occurred, but within the history and backstory established by the comics. BW uses it, TWW comics use it, and the Ultimate Guide's overall section for G1 uses it.

Size changing damn near dissappeared after Headmasters. In all honesty, mass displacement has always just been an inconvenience to the animators who were forced to deal with the limitations of that particular line's toy designs. Look at Car Robots/ Robot In Disguse. It had no size changing and seemed fine. Hell I thought that was nifty to have Team Shinkasen tower over the Car Brothers.

Same with Armada. But no one can ever speak of Armada because other people screech.VF5SS wrote:Size changing damn near dissappeared after Headmasters. You know its really a shame. After Gaogaigar, Takara just lost it. I mean they had Sunrise doing all those Brave Robot shows and even Kunio Okawara doing the designs. And now all their TF shows are just bad Brave imitations with "Bossy Wife" Hasbro asking for the most inane things for the US market.

Actually, size changing was a large part of Masterforce as well. The Cybertron Pretenders were masquerading as humans, after all.
As for Car Robots, it's been a while since I watched it, but shouldn't have JRX towered over almost everyone instead of being on par with Build King and the Bruticus repaint whose name I'm tired to look up?
I do like that Brave Maximus is supa-huge, larger than Fortress Maximus and Scorponok in Rebirth were.

Have you seen the colors of the Energon Scoponok in Comparison to the Sper Link version? I swear they managed to turn a decent toy into a rainbow nightmare. I swear that thing has Puce on it!

Well it may or may not be size changing since the effect was so different than anything else.ZShade wrote:Actually, size changing was a large part of Masterforce as well. The Cybertron Pretenders were masquerading as humans, after all.

Every feat of bad-assitute Rattrap achieved in Beast Wars was achieved with his trusty automatic pistol and hand grenades. Taking that away from him, and then being dismissed by his former friends as useless, even when he brought them vital strategic information, is bound to have a negative effect on his confidence. After selling out those same friends to Megatron in exchange for a mech suit. He may have grown a spine later on in the series, but the fact remains that he already had one at the end of Beast Wars (and he wasn't particularily well-armed back then, either) and somehow it mysteriously disappeared some time before Beast Machines began.
He also stopped consulting the oracle for episodes on end. He started to make his own command decisions. His goal changed from organic Cybertron to technorganic Cybertron yes, but "it was the will of the matrix" blah blah blah......But the point is, his leadership ability did improve. The only thing that changed was that, instead of being a psycho hippy obsessed with making Cybertron organic, he became a psycho hippy obsessed with making Cybertron techno-organic, and people stopped pointing out his psycho hippy-ness.
What history/backstory used by the comics? It was never brought up in Beast Wars. Any history that was brought up was cartoon history. The few token mentions of Primus are not indicative of some underlying continuity cross-polination.Utsanomiko wrote: Oh, and Beast Wars uses the ret-conned continuity; the major events of the cartoons occurred, but within the history and backstory established by the comics. TWW comics use it.....[/quote]
Which explains why Grimlock and the dinobots were on Cybertron 8 million years before they were supposed to have been created....
