Eleas: Yes i forgot to put the space marines in. My bad.

Everyone: i'll be off the board for some time as my mouse (and the spare) has broken down and i'm finding it really annoying and hard to navigate with the keyboard alone.

IG88-E : hmmmmmm..... good idea.

Well...
Pat Marstall wrote: Once upon a battlefield dreary, where I cowered, spent and blearly,
Within an Imperial bunker, darkly stained with dust and gore -
As I cowered, nearly shuttering, suddenly there came a sputtering
As some weapon quickly stuttering - firing at my bunker door.
"`Tis some bolter", I murmmered, "firing at my bunker door -
Only this and nothing more."

Ah, distinctly I remember, it was in the bleak December,
And the brightly burning bastions lit the horizion by the score.
Eagerly, on freedom drunker; - vainly had I sought to hunker
In this heavy Imperial bunker - with perhaps a tunnel in the floor -
A safe and empty fortress with perhaps a tiny tunnel in the floor -
Only this and nothing more.

And the mad raving howling of each distant Space Wolf prowling
Thrilled me - filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before.
So that now, to the beating of my heart, I stood entreating
"`Tis some Space Wolf there repeating, firing at my bunker door -
Some common Grey Hunter rapid-firing at my bunker door -
This it is and nothing more."

Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer
"Marine," said I, "or Scout, your attention I implore;
The bunker walls are thick - they are made of tempered brick
And your bolters do not nick the slightest scratch or tiny score -
Not a dimple, dent, depression, dip, scratch or tiny score -
Away now, and fire no more."

Then in the bunker slumping, presently I heard a thumping
A pounding - rattling many times fiercer than before.
And soon I began to screech - the bunker wall grenades did breach;
The very gods I did beseech as the ceiling fell upon the floor -
Through the wounds poured light which danced upon the floor -
Danced amidst the sounds of war.

Then at once it stopped the violence - I was left alone with silence
Confused, I spied the reason why the shells did drop no more -
For as I began to shutter, then with many a flit and flutter
a psyber-Raven flew through the clutter to perch above the door -
Perched on the two-headed eagle just above the bunker door -
Perched and sat and nothing more.

At this I grew more craven, for the talons of the psyber-Raven
Were all over covered with bright red blood and crimson gore.
"Wretch!" I cried, "Njal hath lent thee - into this fortress has he sent thee
So that remotely may he here be - and this bunker then explore -
Scry out my exact location and this bunker then explore -"
Quoth the Raven, "Eversor"

Then, methought, the air grew darker, the bunker now a little starker
For the uttered word brought terror as I had never felt before.
As for weapons, I knew I had none - no bolter, sword or lasgun;
No arms to stop the war's son fated to break soon through the door -
The blood-mad crazed assassin fated to break soon through the door-
Quoth the Raven, "Eversor"

"Be that word our sign of parting, machine or bird!" I shrieked, upstarting -
"Get thee back into the fire-fight and here spy on me no more!
For as you came unbidden - I would otherwise be here hidden -
Leave my location in this midden - quit that icon above my door!
Take thy shining metal eye, and take thy form from off my door!"
Quoth the Raven, "Eversor"

And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting - still is sitting
On the pallid two-headed eagle just above the bunker door;
His metal eye has all the seeming of a psyker that is scheaming,
To have my guts lie steaming in a pile upon the floor;
And now all hope has left me, crouched here upon the floor
I await the Eversor!

.............so its an assassin who uses ravens to drive people insane before attacking?

by consequences
The eversor is the brute force killing machine of the Imperial Assassins. Kept alive through a carefully balanced cocktail of combat drugs constantly racing through his veins, and maintained in suspended animation until unleashed upon a hapless victim, the Eversor Assassin is perfectly capable of, and more than eager to start, butchering anything and everything that gets between him and his assigned target. If you try to drag him under with superior numbers, he uses them against each other, and if you kill him once he has reached his chosen target, he may succeed even in death, exploding with the force of a plasma grenade as the drugs in him fall out of balance. Vindicarres snipe from a distance, Calidus infiltrate your personal bodyguard, but the Eversor wades through a lake of blood to achieve his mission.

I remeber when that poem was printed in White Dwarf.

Anyway i wasn't thinking of an eversor. I was thnking IG-88E could be a member of the little know Pansyius assassin temple, whose members kill their targets by being really really nice to them. They send them flowers every day and act nice and in the end the victim can't take anymore and commits suicide. :D Just kidding. Alternatively a Culexus that targets betazoids and other psychic races would be just as chilling as an Eversor.

What if I were IG-88E, the assassin droid, at first, but later defeated in a fight and became an Eversor for revenge? I think that would make a great sub=plot. (if I do say so myself :wink: )

Last time i checked neither ST or 40K used assassin droids. And i'd much rather have an eversor than IG-88. I have seen Eversor's take down terminators, tanks, dreadnaughts, wraithlords and one almost took out my bloodthirster! They also survive a lot. In one game my friends Eversor took:
Several big autocannon shells
A direct hit by a lascannon
20 rapid firing bolters
Masses of heavy bolter fire
2 frag missles
All in one turn! He was only killed when the tank next to the one he was assaulting was blown up and he got caught in the blast.

Hmm, yes, I do believe it was... and am I the only one who's irritated at its severe rythm problems? It's bewildering the way the author uses exactly the right words but then fucks up something as simple as number of syllables.

I admit that i am behind, but this is due to many factors that have nicely choosen this part of time to really bug me, these include:
*my mother going into hospital
*a biology field trip
*my mouse breaking (and I still can't get the drivers for the new one installed. does anyone know what an RPC stub is?)
*my school thinking it's a really good idea to give me all my coursework in one bug lump instead of spreading it out other the year :evil:
*Myself being a bit lazy and saying things like "i'll start it tommorow" :oops:

I must say that that last factor is probably the biggest one and i'm sorry. I have started it (after a few attempts) and i am tentatively putting a date for the first part as sometime between this weekend and the next.

"I'll start it tommorow"
"Oh a good movies on i'll start i tommorow"
"New game, i'll start it tommorow"
"Can't be arsed, i'll start it tommorow"
"I'll start it ... OH SH*T!"

THANK YOU SAMAS!

I don't think you've got a part yet, but you sure have now. A good part. A part that will in the end be envied by certain members of this board.

I thought of posting that ... but I wasn't sure if those shortcuts are any good without a mouse at your disposal ...

bugger.

oh well I like my part anyway. As long as you don't kill me quick.

Can't we be fair to the UFP for once?

See this thread:

http://kier.3dfrontier.com/forums/showt ... adid=37909

Under the above leadership, the UFP as a Kim Jong-Il style stalinist dictatorship might have a fighting chance.

*grins* Sorry. Couldn't help myself. Well, I do await the story with more than a bit of curiousity. Warhammer meeting the Feddies... Talk of culture clash!
