More than likely naval and air force aviators will operate America's, France's and Great Britain's starships, while Russia will probably draw its crews from their air force exclusively.

America, France, Russia and China will draw on Air Force personnel. Britain, however, will utilise the Royal Navy. Because it's a battleship damnit!

As for artwork, I can't draw or model to save my life, but if someone wants to ask for a general description and feels like drawing them, go right ahead.

Figure the FAA would operate the battlewagon, but wouldn't the RAF at least operate the 302s? Or, will the Fleet Air Arm fly those as well?

Good shout Up Cinnabar.

Nope, the Fleet Air Arm will fly the 302's that will be stationed on the (eventual) 3 British 304's. The Dreadnought will carry no fighters. And the RAF get to keep the ground-based 302 squadrons.

Oh, okay, she's going to be an all big-gun/missile platform. Gotcha.

And, any time.

This is why I said the three "heavy" designs reflect historical trends. So the Yanks are building supercarriers with only PD armament, the Brits are build a big-gun dreadnought, designed for all-out ship to ship brawls. The Russians are building heavy missile cruisers, aimed at speed, nimbleness and long-range punch.

And, then we shall see which design decisions are vindicated in combat against the Covies.

Never. The Tau'ri know of the First Battle of Terra, and what that Battlestar did. They will not use the name out of respect. Plus their own former HMS Barham died a painful and tragic death, so not exactly an inspiring choice of name for the crews:

"Welcome aboard the new HMS Barham! The last ship to bear this time was destroyed in battle barely a month after being commissioned! And the one before that got gut-punched by a submarine and then exploded!" Yeah...

May I suggest when you do start posting the new story, start a new thread?

Oh definitely. I'm still using this one for discussion though since I want to start the new thread with an actual story post. Eventually I'll see about cross-posting this one to FF.net, and/or add it to Completed/Cleaned Up Stories.

Whoops, serves me right for being that thick.

E_F, do you want me to do a final nitpick pass on your current version before you post it in toto?

One thing that does jump out for me, off top of head, is the Asgard reaction to the false vacuum event , then later on, mentioning they all go switchoff (with their human allies keeping watch).

What kind of small craft American supercarriers will have? 302's are of little use against heavy ships, especially shielded ones. They will need something like Terran bombers in large numbers to be effective.

I'm gonna guess that the Tau'ri will have that covered. There are probably any number of purpose built small craft on the drawing boards.

FA-302s, maybe, or even FA- or possibly PG(PT/M)308 gunships similar to the Kobolians' own Scythes, plus 302s for general fleet defense.

DKeith, that would be appreciated, please PM me and I'll write something up.

Sky Captain: The Yank Supercarriers will indeed carry a full range of small craft, in the same way as...I was about to say as modern Yank carriers do, but at present they're only fying F/A-18's in various versions, so that's a bad comparison. Think late Cold War air wings, you'd have fleet-defence fighters, attack fighters, anti-sub fighters, AWACS birds, the lot.

Basically, if you recall that conversation we had about specialist hulls months ago? This is basically what you get. Each of these three designs is the same size as a Terran cruisers. One is all-strikecraft, one is all-big-gun, one is missile-heavy.

Since I'm calling the sequel Book II: A Symphony of War, I suppose I should come up with a name for Book I. Perhaps "The Great Exodus?"
