Did I get the phrase wrong, or is it just shorthand to just use 冲? Oh, and what did you think of my translation of CHEF? :)

(If anyone is wondering: Yes, I tried to translate MKSheppard's line as a PLA or other PRC force member, or CMC/Politburo member might use it.)
"Yee's proposal is exactly the sort of thing I would expect some Washington legal eagle to do. In fact, it could even be argued it would be unrealistic to not have a scene in the next book of, say, a Congressman Yee submit the Yee Act for consideration. :D" - bcoogler on this

"My crystal ball is filled with smoke, and my hovercraft is full of eels." - Bayonet

Stark: "You can't even GET to heaven. You don't even know where it is, or even if it still exists."
SirNitram: "So storm Hell." - From the legendary thread

Belial's chief Naga was complaining about the quality of the naga sent on Satan's orders by Dukes et al of Hell. At least some were rendered "inoperative" for at least some time by the behaviour of the Detroit lava portal. My impression is that the metal arrays(?) used were trashed.

The quality naga held back by many Dukes have suffered heavily, not to mention mortally, along with the rest of Beelzebub's army and that battle was a looong way away from Tartarus.

So, Belial is not well situated to launch new lava portal attacks as soon as he would wish, in my opinion. Plus, he and/or his are facing a boning!

Good point about metal fatigue Mr Wong. One can only hope that as new production begins to flow the museum pieces will be taken out of operational use ASAP.

Indeed that is the plan; the museum pieces and recovered resrve aircraft just hold the line and flesh out numbers until new production aircraft can take their place. The metal fatigue point is a very good one; most of teh aircraft (in the U.S.) are in museums because they are nearly worn out. Also, those old bird are very hard to fly compared with the modern equivalents (if you have Microsoft Flight Simulator FSX, get used to flying an F-16, then try to fly and F-105. They are very different animals and the F-105 is almost impossible to land until its realized an entirely different technique is needed). So we can take it for granted, the museum-piece accident/ structural failure rate is pretty high).

By the way, I'm going to be on vacation for ten days so there'll be a gap before the next part appears.

I had a book years ago about the NFWS, and there was a passage about an exercise(possibly Red Flag) which had Marine F/A-18 pilots going up against ANG F-16 pilots. The jarheads had just converted over from the rhino, while the guardsmen had just moved from the lovable old Thud. Apparently they were all acting like kids with new toys, which, I suppose, was exactly the case.

Not exactly. The word rush is 冲 itself. The word feng suggest tip or "edge".
If so, the proper words should be xian feng, or iow, vanguard.

And I do love your translation of CHEF. Tian Guo divorce the concept of heaven, depicting it as merely another kingdom, a heavenly kingdom so as to speak, as opposed to the chinese concept which is heavenly palace/mansion.

A good translation would be chong ah, zhong hua tian guo yong zhen dui.

It would be awesome to see a road trip story/movie with Shep and Stuart, dealing on such themes as male bonding, atomic holocaust and growing up from into men :)

After all the work Stu has done recently on both this and Winter Warriors I think he deserves a break. Besides it gives me a breathing space to work on the next idea I've come up for the story, phew!

Enjoy the holiday, Stu. Btw I just realised that I should have mentioned that Vulcan XM603 is actually in anti-flash white rather than the tactical wrap-around scheme. Oops!

Thank you for the etymology, although "vanguard" might actually fit if CHEF's role is defined accordingly.

Well, the times that I've seen "heaven" in Chinese or Japanese it's usually as tian guo, even though I think that tian tang (天堂) more overtly implies what you're describing.

Maybe someone from the PRC should inform a USG official about the Celestial Bureaucracy, so that any USG information ops can paint Yahweh realm as a cosmic DMV.
A good translation would be chong ah, zhong hua tian guo yong zhen dui.
Dui as in 隊? When I thought of this it seemed a little... miniscule for what I assume might come to be one of the PRC's most prestigious armies.

I'll be at the convention to properly document it as well (I'll miss the B-70 day, but there for the rest of it).

I will forgive everyone involved in causing the withdrawal phenomena if some serious B-70 pr0n is made available here.

You're not wrong. The Christians in particular love to use Tian Guo to describe the Heavenly Kingdom of Jesus and his new realm on Earth.

The frequency might be too low. Baldricks seem to be able to sense both UHF and VHF signals (Lakeenah could 'hear' GSM transmissions and FM radio), but the really long range radio nav stuff works at much longer wavelengths (e.g. LORAN uses just 100 kHz).

Good point. Though I suppose that if demons can hear it, Memnon will be able to tell them the instant they switch it on.

Down under "boning" has two additional meanings:

- the pointing of a bone at someone by an aboriginal is like a death hex, apparently; and
- to sack someone.

It wasn't a sexual reference!

It was perhaps notable that the demon could not understand orcish whereas demons can understand and be understood by any human.

A Demon's poem

On the Plain of Dysprosium,
They marshaled their force
Weak and puny sons of Man,
Atop legions of iron horse

T'ward them we strode,
With tridents held high
Our cause was most just,
Said the Lord of the Flies

O'er the Shores of Phlegethon,
We charged with a mighty roar
Beast and demon and harpy,
Brought our weapons to the fore

There was lightning from afar,
and we looked to the skies
The ground erupted beneath us
By the thousands, we died

Thunder on the left,
Thunder on the right
Sending our brave demons
Into endless night

Still we charged onward,
Our hearts gripped with fear
But our Lord had deceived us,
The end was now near

Then came the cloud
That bore silent death
Whole legions fell as one,
Under its deadly breath

The Foe showed no mercy
He had become Lord of War
The air burned and the ground shook
Till we could suffer no more

The day had been lost
We all turned and ran
From the power of the gods
In the puny hands of Man

It could also be a reference to the fact that the B-1B Lancer is nicknamed "The Bone".
