Penetration and stopping power are not the same, the relationship is inversely proportional. For a given amount of muzzle energy, the more penetration you have the less stopping power. The result is 5.56 rounds will at longer ranges punch clear though a body but not even knock the person over. At shorter ranges, the bullets tend to break up, dumping all the energy into the body.

5.56 is heavy on penetration, and with the recently introduced discarding sabot AP rounds Sweden makes, you can punch clear though an inch of steel. That should do for a trolls skull.

have you done scientific measurements on the density of a trolls skull? Besides, you need stopping power to keep them at bay while you prep the heavy weapons to put them down for good.

Why shoot a troll in the head, they've LONG since proved there's nothing left upstairs to kill. Shoot em in the gonads, then at least they can't breed!
