That the speaker assumes I can trace my origins is an example of the FOB stereotype. That line of questions shows that you assumed that person was not from from Hamburg, and was somehow different from all the other Hamburgers. I consider myself an American. It bothers me to have it constantly shown that most people don't think of me that way. Every time this conversation takes place, it reminds me that Asians are a separate (but equal) race, unlike Real Americans.

Why don't you ask that question of a person who's NOT interracial?
so i ask him where his ancestors are from because obviously a part of them are not from hamburg and he answers that his dad is from eritreia. end of problem. waste of energy to get pissed off by something like that.
In America, every white person is descended from immigrants, but the first thing you say to an average white person in America is usually NOT "so where are you from ... originally?" You can't figure out why visible minorities might be annoyed to be repeatedly asked where they come from, as if they're foreigners?

lol. May I ask why, or do YOU even know why?
Probably had something to do with the flatheaded, mouth-breathing Alpha Gonna Getsome library "patron" who needed to know where we kept our copies of Forbes magazine. the stereotypes about southern people from rural areas. We (me being one of them) are not all racist, illiterate, stupid, ignorant, idiots. Hey, we enjoy hunting and choose to live back in the hills, but that does not make us stupid and ignorant. I have met many 'rednecks' who beat the heck out of some city people when it comes to brains.

NOTHING compared to the movie theatre...

Marquee with all the prices of everything. And displays of popcorn bag/drink sizes. "How big is the_____?" "How much is the_____?"

Better yet, the sign in the box office window that says, "We DO charge for children one year and up." "You charge for the kids, too?"

Makes you just want to slap the little motherfuckers...But I understand how you feel. Times...well...hundreds.

Actually, it is possible to be quite intelligent but still be ignorant. People who live in seclusion tend to be culturally ignorant. This is not a stereotype; this is a natural outcome of not encountering the same number and variety of people that one encounters in city life. No amount of book knowledge is equivalent to meeting and conversing with living, breathing examples of other cultures.
