Alyeska, just fucking drop this "SB Babies" thing (and that goes others, too). I'm fucking tired of hearing you go on and on about your God damn role in that piece of shit.

It's water under the bridge now, so shut the fuck up.

Yeah, sure ya do. I'm quite familiar with spacebattles (I post there and have lurked for years) and I've seen just about every one of the hard core trekkies insult Mike Wong over the years.

And you think simply because he doesn't enknowledge every shot a trekkie takes at him doesn't mean he doesn't know about them. I'm sure he is well aware of the behaviour of the trekkies at spacebattles.
Read what I wrote dipshit. I have defended him in the past on the character issue. Most trekkies over at SB.com do not say nasty things about Mike all the time. A great many of them do not like the stereotypes that Mike portrayed, and they let that be known, but the majority of the trekkies (and fivers) have not attacked Mike's character, nor have they snipped at him. A very select few have ever directly attacked Mike himself, and none of it was really debating.

You might Lurk at SB, but that doesn't mean you really know whats going on because you don't really know the people over there. I have been at SB for over 2 and a half years and know just about everyone in the debates, and I know what has gone on. I can just as well say that there have been more character attacks againts SB.com in the few short months that SD.net has existed then there have been attacks against Mike from SB.com. But these are individual people, not the group itself. Dumbfucks like you who won't listen to the truth when its being placed right in front of your nose are the reason there are conflicts between members of SD.net and SB.com. All you want to do is fight and piss people off and be pissed off at people. Some of us are getting just a little tired of your childish antics and wish you would just fucking go away.

I will drop it when people stop mentioning it.

Master of Ossus wrote:What part do you disagree with me about? Are you claiming now that Mike is infallible, or that you proved he was wrong on some points? Perhaps the number of parrots died, but I think you could have just asked them not to keep referencing his site every single time. SD.net is by no means comprehensive, and I'm sure you could have found some points that were not covered by Mike's site to point out, if you really wanted to force them to stop parroting and start thinking.
We tried reasoning with them for a couple of months and it got no where. The whole point was to just get them to STFU and be done with it.

As to the parts I disagree with, I do think that on some issues Mike was proven to be in error (though you would be hard pressed to make me review the whole thing again to point them out). I recall Mike claiming that some of my points were minor nitpicks then anything else, but they did point out small errors he has made. It was an attempt to simply prove that Mike wasn't perfect, and as I said that goal was acomplished.

I still cannot believe that anyone would think another human being to be perfect. In fact, the phrase, "being human" means to make mistakes. In any case, some of your nitpicks might have been correct, but I hardly see how nitpicking a few issues while being wrong on a multitude of others is a good thing. It may have demonstrated Mike's lack of perfection (as if we had to have proof of that), but I don't see why you were willing to sacrifice your own integrity to accomplish that.

Integrity? People saw me as a rabid Trekkie from the moment I came to the boards. After that people saw me as someone who is willing to stick it out and a rational debater for the most part. Did I get all pissed off that Mike attacked my work? Nope, I e-mailed him and adressed a few points he missed or made mistakes on in relation to the essays and he corrected most of those. That sacraficing my integrity as you call it didn't seem to do much because Mike said I was "different" compared to the others he dealt with.

But you were willing to associate with other people who were clearly in error (the guy who complained because Mike called it "white" instead of "ketracel white" cracks me up). I think that that does damage your credibility. Now, you may have been called a "rabid Trekkie," anyway, but I don't think that nitpicking Mike helped you out very much.

Well, I do admit that I didn't know quite so much about the subject back then as compared to now. One thing at SB.com is that newbies on the VS debates aren't flamed quite so much as I see here. People would repeat information they had told others because I had not seen it yet (that and unlike SD.net and ASVS, there are no FAQs, no resources to look through). I didn't know much about Bryan at the time other then that he was a well known Trekkie at SB.com (of the three of us, he's been there the longest) and was willing to support what I wanted to do. The reason E1701 helped me is because he's been a long time internet friend and he's the reason I came to SB.com in the first place (told me it was a great place to download spacebattle movies between the series). Kinda hard not to go up against something that big without having an ally (Bryan) and a friend (E1701)

FYI, I met and got to know E1701 at a Total Annihilation board. It took a month before I connected his signature with Star Trek (don't ask, I was not paying attention to Star Trek when I went to that TA board so it didn't dawn on me). So we weren't crazed trekkies who invaded the board.

Yeah, there is more flaming here. I actually kind of like flaming people who annoy me. I just figured that the moderators at SB were more restrictive with their rules about swearing at other people. And you are right, that is a BIG job to take on individually. I'm glad you know more about the subject than you did back then. What would you do, now, if the same problem started again? Do you think you would make essentially the same points? Would you do the same kind of thing, except with different points, or would you just not bother altogether?

This time around I would completely skip the SW aspect of the whole thing and merely address the Trek points. Nothing to do with the VS at all. And before even attempting a debate with Mike I would secure a sizeable database of information to pour over and make conclussions and calculations.

This board is a virtual free-for-all, which is pretty much the way I envisioned it. I'm all for letting people speak their minds, within reason. The vast majority of people I disagree with have discovered that they can speak their minds on my board and the worst I'll do to them (apart from attacking their arguments) is (maybe) give them a custom title (and you have to push pretty hard for one of those). The ban list is pretty short.
I just figured that the moderators at SB were more restrictive with their rules about swearing at other people.
They're more strict than me, but I suspect 99% of board mods are.

SB.com tries to keep the tempers and flames down without grossly over doing the censorship bit. I think for the most part they do a good job. Then again I rather like being able to come here and call someone a complete fucking idiot to their face for saying something stupid that I disagree with. Believe it or not Mike, but Laird (The One) had a forum that you would have liked. It was rather "free" in how people could act and they even had a Tender Box forum just for venting on anything and anyone.

I am rather fond of ASU Cowards antics, he proved just how stupid you can be while appearing to have a reasonable IQ level (some of his tactics and antics proved he knew technology well enough).

There were actually several of them, but they all shared a similar personality and mentality. And yes, they were pretty funny.

Some of the mods seem to like closing topics that they find repeditive or boring. I don't think that can really be called a good thing.

Still it's not quite as bad as scifi-meshes, where the moderation staff nukes anything that isn't bunnies in light and edits posts (to the point of misrepresentation) without leaving any indication that what's left in the thread isn't what the author originally wrote.
