This is why (among other reasons) I don't use MS Word.

OpenOffice.org for me, thanks.

BTW, I loved this line:
"The issue appears to affect all versions of Microsoft Word," Microsoft said in a statement in response to questions by The Associated Press. "When the investigation is completed, we will take the action that best serves Microsoft's customers."

Word 97, an earlier version of the program, is most susceptible to the attack. But Word 97 will not be repaired because Microsoft no longer provides support it, the company said.

A research firm reported in May that about 32 percent of offices have copies of Word 97 running, according to a survey of 1,500 high-tech managers worldwide.
This is why I proposed elsewhere that all companies should be forced to open the source code to any product which they no longer offer technical support for. Otherwise, parasites like Microsoft will use their closed-source to bleed you dry, by deliberately witholding critical security fixes or bugfixes from old products in order to "nudge" you into an expensive upgrade to the latest version. :x

I loved the part where they say they will "take the action that best serves Microsoft's customers." If you just replace customers with "shareholders", you'll get a more accurate statement.

Hmm so the way I read it somone could use a word document to play blood hound for any other files the user might want.. And of course the revierer never notices the word docment triples or 8x's in size...

Another *secruity flaw that any smart user would spot off the bat...

Alright now I admit I am biased, and that I don't use word for myself. But Word is really useful, bugs and all. Easy to use, and has lots of features. Prints well in all its versions.

I like that

if M$ does anything, it makes really useful, easy to work with things.

compared to the other office suites (Yes I have used every office suite in existance) it just works. I like it.

I just use rtf documents so word isn't what I would need. though I could use it if I wanted to for that.

I myself use openoffice on every platform. its cheap (free) and I can install it on any platform without a permission slip from accounting.
