Yep :( At least this spring I won't have to grade, and I'm six months from being a doctor!

A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

A minute's thought suggests that the very idea of this is stupid. A more detailed examination raises the possibility that it might be an answer to the question "how could the Germans win the war after the US gets involved?" - Captain Seafort, in a thread proposing a 1942 'D-Day' in Quiberon Bay

Isn't it just so incredibly depressing? Not gonna lie, it's a huge reason I'm looking hard at non-academic jobs.
I'll be honest, I love teaching and don't mind grading. I just find non academic enviornments to teach. This might be more of a problem in the U.S. but here there are quite a few non academic enviornments which let you teach.

The US takes enough issue with teaching in an academic environment. We don't allow non-academic teaching at all.

Surlethe is alive! Amazing. The more I hear from people that have to grade, the more glad I get that I am very much going to avoid trying to teach.

Lucky you, its at least another two years for me due to some troublemakers in the middle east which blew up a good chunk of my research.

A decision must be made in the life of every nation at the very moment when the grasp of the enemy is at its throat. Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? A country isn't a rock. It's not an extension of one's self. It's what it stands for. It's what it stands for when standing for something is the most difficult! - Chief Judge Haywood

Thanks! Good to see you too. Life is busy-busy -- kids, grad school, job hunting, Guilder to frame ... I'm swamped. How's your shit going?
Split up with my ex about a year ago, after over 17 years together. That was a lot easier than putting down one of the cats last Tuesday.

Other than that last one, life is relatively good for me. Certainly better than before the breakup. Work shows no signs of ending, which is a good thing, though I hope to switch to a different position inside the company. Also starting to look into the dating scene, so we shall see how this goes.

Good luck with all of your stuff, seems like you have a full plate and then some!

You know what my life is Surley-kins we are face butt buddies.
"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."
