Settings similar to Strangereal(Ace Combat series)?

Post by Adam Reynolds »

Are there any other works of fiction that use something of a similar premise to those games of having a modern completely fictional setting? The key is that it is fictional geography and completely fictional nations though they often tend to parallel real ones. This allows the possibility of modern warfare without vilifying real nations powerful enough to be interesting. It also has the advantage of being multipolar which allows for more interesting scenarios.

I was wondering this after seeing the current modern STGOD.

There was a show called Kings from a few years ago which operated like this. It appeared to be a normal, modern-day world with regular people, but its countries and history were entirely fictional. And they did fight a war, though that wasn't really the focus of the series.
