False Confessions - The Reykjavik Confessions

Organized in a fashion that I cannot post it inline

One of my concerns has been false confessions in various cases.
Some people blame the US but seems to happen just about everywhere.
If you are interrogated long enough, you will confess.

Thomas Paine

It also helps if you're tired, have no clue of severity are mentally handicapped (the west memphis three is the most famous example of such a case, wherein Jesse Miskelley had a lower iq than 96% of kids in his group) or are just plain scared and confused you can be conned

The US definitely isn't alone . . . Japan is notorious for high rates of false confessions. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/8290767.stm

I've heard that the Phoenix Wright games are a surprisingly accurate satire of the Japanese legal system.

I know there are many people who simply don't believe that these sorts of things happen. The Amanda Knox case is a very recent example of a false confession, which was used as "evidence" even though said confession didn't actually fit any theory for the crime presented at trial, and there being no actual physical evidence she participated.

So the insanely high rate for solving crimes and prosecuting criminals in Japan is a load of BS, what a surprise.
