Do you drink tea?

Whenever I drink tea is usually the Melange Mix I order from a Seattle tea place called "B. Fuller's Mortar and Pestle".

I really enjoy the taste of it, and I usually put in a teaspoon or two of honey in my cup of tea.

I drink 400 ml or so of breakfast tea per day; unusual as nearly all my colleagues drink coffee instead. My wife is addicted to tea and drinks one to two litres per day, she has several flavors of it.

I drink a cup of tea every morning, mostly cheap stuff with occasional cup of Earl Grey or some new black tea I see somewhere.

A cup of Earl Grey in the morning, brewed strong with no milk and one sugar. Later in the day I'll have one, maybe two of what my mother (who was in the Navy long ago) calls "RN Standard Tea" which is served in a pint mug, black, five sugars and brewed fiercely strong.

Severe crises call for what she calls "RN Emergency Tea," which is much the same as standard but with more sugar and using two teabags.

Just boring old Lipton. Two bags in a big mug, no sugar. I've actually found that I far prefer tea unsweetened. I also have some green tea I will brew up once in awhile, but I don't like the variety I have as much as the one that comes with meals at the Chinese restaurant.

I enjoy teas, and have a few loose-leaf tea balls for brewing it myself. Loose leaf tea is my favorite way of doing it because I find the flavor is superior and it's really no trouble at all to do.

I like the teas I get at Chinese restaurants, but despite how inexpensive and common it must be I've never found it myself. I despite the flavor of green teas, which is too bad, because they're everywhere. There's a variety of red and white teas I enjoy but they're not amazing. I often hear that its Jasmine, but could also be Gunpowder. In either case I like black teas. Earl Grey is okay, but I find it a little dull. I don't like it with milk or sugar, as the bite it has normally seems to be the best part of it. I enjoy buying hand-blended teas too, from farmers markets and such. Those are often quite good.

Outside of the "mostly water and tea" kind of tea, my favorite tea-product is a nice spiced Chai tea brewed as strong as I can possibly make it. For these I use tea bags because there's one brand I much prefer over all others, except for a close competitor I get loose-leaf at a tea store in a local town. I often brew my chai without water, only milk, and use my fiancee's lactose free milk because she enjoys it too, but has a nasty allergic reaction to lactose (not just intolerant)--and that kind of milk is much sweeter in flavor than normal milk, which means I can use less sugar or skip it entirely. I don't like the confusion of added flavor that honey adds to it, so I'll stick to sugar when making it. I especially like those spice notes of cinnamon and other things.

That stuff I could just drink forever.

That's the list of stuff from the specialist shop I buy my tea from (in Finnish, but you get the idea). It's 68 pages long (at something like 6-7 entries per page), they have some 400 varieties of tea and various herbal infusions on the list.

From that list, I generally drink unflavored black tea (usually not the blends, but specific type), some flavored black tea (mango, earl grey, madame grey, lady grey, rose, a few others) or flavored green or white tea. They use actual pieces of fruit for flavorings, no added sugar in these, so the difference to the tea bags from the grocery store is humongous.

Most of the bagged tea has added sugar, can be up to 20 percent, especially the flavored varieties, so brewing from loose leaves is always the superior alternative. Tea bags are a last resort if nothing else is available.

I drink nearly a gallon of tea per day: One 1.3 liter pot of black tea, one pot of green tea per work shift, then one more pot (sometimes two) at home. Of course, the significant other also drinks tea, but generally one or two cups per pot at most. Because I need to speak on the phone at work all the time, totaling several hours per day, drinking tea helps me keep my voice from going to shit and generally keeps me alert.

My favorite type of tea is the one called Sicilian orange from that PDF list: Green tea with dried apple, papaya, orange and some lemongrass mixed in. I don't usuually drink herbal infusions, but some flavored rooibos is good. A combination of lemongrass and kaffir lime (about a 50-50 or 60-40 mix) is really excellent.
