So when does it transform into an evil Decepticon.

Man that thing is hideous. The windshield just looks bizarre. Was it designed by Rob Liefeld?

Wait three million for that? That's smaller an an 18 wheeler and I bet for three million dollars I could turn one of those trucks into something amazing for two point two million dollars even with 120k on the truck itself and 2 million for what I'd spend on the trailer. Of course that needs a special license so to get a custom built RV body I'd bet I'd still be able to turn a million dollar profit per truck custom building every single one and not make it the least aerodynamic pustule on the road.

Hey now, I don't see any exto-guns, pouches or steroids. Maybe Frank Miller it does look like a giant fishbowl window after all.

The interior is pretty cool, IMO, but the windshield and exterior are pretty hideous.

Reminds me of the tractor-trailer designs Luigi Colani did. His were in the effort to higher reduce aerodynamic drag, so maaaybe that's what's going on with the front. His are certainly just as "bwuh?" as that ugly thing.

How fast do tractors go? Do they really need to be aerodynamic?

I've seen RVs just as expensive yet better designed.

Also known as semi-trailers or semis. They do about 70 mph on interstates, and that's pushing a lot of air. In fact, I've begun to see trailers on the road already with ends that open out to lessen the whirlpool effect behind the trailer.

After looking at this pic:

I have to wonder if this WAS designed by Luigi Colani.
That might explain part of the price, like a designer handbag or a exclusive designer coat... A designer RV?

Well, if they ever remake Spaceball, that would make a niffty Eagle 5.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

It is based on his design as the company's website states.
Marchi Mobile
Partially based on the Colani design, the eleMMent offers reduced fuel consumption of up to 20% by its trendsetting aerody- namics, thus creating economic and ecologic harmony. Despite its eco-friendly values, the eleMMent is truly sportive with more than 500 hp, a unique carbon-fiber rear diffuser and double tube sport exhaust.

Thanks, Enigma. I did some brief looking at their site, but didn't pull his name out (it was like a few clicks). Explains a lot of the design of the front (as that semi shows, it's an established look for him), though I'm sure he didn't have anything with the back. That's much too traditional for him. Honestly, I think it would look better if they had used a design of his for the back as well. It looks like a mish-mash of weird and normal. At least his designs are consistently ridiculous.

Semis drive over a thousand kilometers a day, hauling 30-50 metric tons. That's a lot of diesel burned. Any way of streamlining the units (as can be seen on modern highway tractors) is worth looking at.

Speaking of that, I noticed recently small numbers of semis that now have movable flaps added to the rear to create a blunt V shape to reduce drag on the trailer, as well as hanging sidewalls under the trailer for the same purpose. Obviously this is only attractive for truckers who own the trailer they pull, or corporate fields, both those two categories make up a lot of trucking and the plates can't be that expensive.

Oh, I completely agree. It's why I mentioned the fold out backs for trailers. With so much of the US economy dependent of tractor-trailers, any way to reduce costs is worth pursuing. However, Colani's work is so just out there, I can never see it being accepted widestream as it sits. The designs are so radical that they just don't sit well next to regular designs, especially a sweeping, organic front combined with a square back. So I called his designs "ridiculous" by that sense. I do understand that even crazy radical designs can result in progress as principles are tested.

Edit:

Yeah, I've seen them (both designs) more and more on the trucks going through Boise on I-84. It's good to see even small steps taken to address the staggering amount of fuel used for trucking.

The trailer skirts are emerging technology, it's apparently not so simple to bolt on some skirts and hope they stay on. They have been proven to make a big dent in fuel efficiency figures, and they're really not that expensive.

I haven seen anything on the rears of trailers.

That's amazing!!! It seems like it would be sort of weird to drive too. Blind spots everywhere.

On the trailer tail things,
the Trailer Tail product could reduce fuel consumption by up to 6.6 percent.
That doesn't seem like a lot at first but when you consider how much fuel some of those guys must burn through in a day... What I want to know is how will this affect me drafting?

Don't fucking draft behind a semi. Stay in sight of one or both mirrors, always.
