Everybody’s been too damn polite about this nonsense:



The “Occupy” movement, whether displaying itself on Wall Street or in the streets of Oakland (which has, with unspeakable cowardice, embraced it) is anything but an exercise of our blessed First Amendment. “Occupy” is nothing but a pack of louts, thieves, and rapists, an unruly mob, fed by Woodstock-era nostalgia and putrid false righteousness. These clowns can do nothing but harm America.



“Occupy” is nothing short of a clumsy, poorly-expressed attempt at anarchy, to the extent that the “movement” – HAH! Some “movement”, except if the word “bowel” is attached - is anything more than an ugly fashion statement by a bunch of iPhone, iPad wielding spoiled brats who should stop getting in the way of working people and find jobs for themselves.



This is no popular uprising. This is garbage. And goodness knows they’re spewing their garbage – both politically and physically – every which way they can find.



Wake up, pond scum. America is at war against a ruthless enemy.



Maybe, between bouts of self-pity and all the other tasty tidbits of narcissism you’ve been served up in your sheltered, comfy little worlds, you’ve heard terms like al-Qaeda and Islamicism.



And this enemy of mine — not of yours, apparently - must be getting a dark chuckle, if not an outright horselaugh - out of your vain, childish, self-destructive spectacle.



In the name of decency, go home to your parents, you losers. Go back to your mommas’ basements and play with your Lords Of Warcraft.



Or better yet, enlist for the real thing. Maybe our military could whip some of you into shape.



They might not let you babies keep your iPhones, though. Try to soldier on.

Back in the day, he spoke up for creator's rights, so no, this is a recent development. I saw a response that pointed this out and informed him that the respondent had been considering keeping some of Miller's books for his kids to read when they got old enough, and this made him decide to throw them out. Can't find it though.

Years ago, in an interview for one of the comics news magazines, Howard Chaykin (American Flagg) opined that Frank Miller must have been mugged at some point in his life, as he was pretty reactionary back then, around 1989 or so, maybe a couple of years after that. His writing has steadily taken on a bitter and paranoid bent in the time since The Dark Knight and culminating with his most recently released atrocity in which his surrogate-Batman character gets to slaughter "dem eeeevul Mooslimz" by the mosque-ful. This rant of his is not at all surprising. You can't even call it "sad", since this is the worldview that Miller has enthusiastically embraced. He's just a bitter old crank now who lives in a dark place populated by enemies and their fellow-travelers, and will be screaming about Islamists under the bed and their "dupes" (a.k.a. the people) probably until the day he dies.

Because, as they're "radical liberals", they're seen as inherently anti-war that want to hobble our military and weaken our resolve to fight the terrorists, just as they clearly undermined our war against the Communists of Vietnam and led to our failure there. Has he ever created ANY character that wasn't just a generic action movie set piece? I mean, the characters in Sin City are cool, but don't have any particular depth, and his portrayal of Batman was neat, but it's not like it was his original character. He just made him darker. (I don't like Frank Miller, if you can't tell)

Hav, I'm actually curious about your perception of what's going on down there.

I have no idea honestly. I don't have TV anymore, so I have no local news. I don't really hit news sites on the internet, and pretty much only hear about things that are sports related or a really big deal and then, usually only on here.

I didn't even know it was in Oakland until a few days ago. It's also in parts of Oakland I don't tend to go to. I stick to the seedier areas.

For all I know, Miller is right.

What I have heard is what Jenn has told me, and that is that it is keeping regular people from getting to work, as it has kept a few of Jenn's friends stuck at home or unable to commute to certain areas. These are people that work at grocery stores and shit.

I also catch buzz words and stuff here and there, so when I hear that this is a movement against 1%ers, I get sketchy and start looking for my pistol.

Then I wonder if any of the "1%ers" they are talking about and raging against have ever actually step foot in Oakland. I get the Wall Street version, but fucking Oakland? Go occupy the Caman Islands if you wanna fuck with these people's money. Of course then, they would all just get gunned down, and none of these people are prepared for anything like that from what I hear.

It seems like these people are just pissed that they or others lost their homes and jobs, but is that really Wall Street's fault? At what point does personal responsibility for your situation in life kick in and at what point is it excused. The line seems to be blurred here, and has been for the last decade.

I get that people want the ultra rich, that they feel control everything, to take responsibility and be accountable to the people they are supposedly controlling. I also get disrupting commerce and the lines of money, but it seems like before you get to the 1%ers, you are going to have to fuck up a whole lot of 99%ers lives.

Maybe there is something I am missing since I am detached and don't really care, but if there is, it seems like it's because the Occupy people don't really know what they are doing then, as you would think that they would want that message to get out. I mean, I hear all this noise, but I don't hear any solutions in it.

Maybe I'll trot on down to the next thing and see what I see.

That'd probably be a good idea. I don't have contact with anyone down there so I can't direct you to a person in particular. Bear in mind we do attract crazies so there may be dipshits but there's also really educated folks that would love to just talk with you about it.

Oakland is kind of a big deal to us because of the level of brutality that's been directed against them by the police and because of the success of the general strike at the beginning of the month. There's mixed opinions on it and the idea that it's hurting the 99% is fair, but the strike proved a lot of working people are on our side and are willing to sacrifice even just to show solidarity with the movement. They've also been a great source of morale to other occupiers, because they just keep coming back, or like stuff at Berkeley. There's that video of the cops beating one the students for a bit and then giving up. Oakland immediately sent like 1500 people down there which forced the cops to back down and retreat into their little building.

One of the main ideas is that it's not just Wall Street being greedy dicks, it's that the finance industry and the government are now basically the same thing. And the level of overreaction we're seeing from governments all over the world kinda suggests to a lot of occupiers that we're not far off the mark.
