IF he comes to the NFC West, the Seahawks are good spot, but they have a lot more holes to fill besides QB. The Cardinals are the same way. People seem to forget their exodus of talent last year on the defensive side. They were not just a QB away from anything and they can't depend on Patrick Peterson to bail them out of three games like he did this year.
Now the 49ers aren't even a QB away in my opinion, but a couple of wide outs. I have full faith in Smith doing at least what he did this year, and improving. Given a receiver that can get open and stay healthy and we are in business.

That said, if Manning wants in, he is in. Even a Manning at 50-75% is equal, if not better than Smith. He pretty much comes with Reggie Wayne at the hip and now Dallas Clark is on the market to go along with Davis and Walker? That doesn't just make the 49ers the NFC West Champ picks, but it makes them the Superbowl favorites out of the gate. Also keep in mind that the 49ers in the last few years have been very successful at shutting down Manning and his offense in it's prime the last few times they played. He goes into the NFC West on another team and he has to contend with that D. It doesn't assure the Seahawks or Cardinals anything. It basically just makes an even playing field for the division. He goes to SF and he completely tips the balance way off kilter to the 49ers favor.

I mean, imagine Manning in an uncomplicated offense and one where the pressure is gone to score 35 a game. Literally, 2 TDs and 2 FGs and you get 13 wins. They just have to protect him, but that is the danger behind any NFC West team at this point, but I would rather take my chances with the 49ers talent up front than the Hawks or Cards if I am Manning.

Now THAT said, ain't gonna happen. Harbaugh and Ballke have long view, and Manning, while a short term upgrade, and one that takes advantage of the talent on the roster NOW, puts them back in the same boat in 2-3 years with finding a franchise QB. Granted, that may be just what they are thinking. Smith is only 30 in 3 years... right when Young took over and still had a HoF career.

I think Manning makes a play for Houston, goes to Arizona or my SUPER SLEEPER... Oakland. :D

Oh man, give Manning that speed at receiver? Give those receivers Manning's influence? You watch the culture in Oakland to a 360 so fast you will need three neck surgeries too.

I know it sounds silly, but get Manning, probably Wayne as well. Trade Palmer to the Seahawks and get him back with Caroll and pick up a few late round picks this year that McKenzie can work with... could be very fucking interesting. :D

Anyways... here is what I would like from Santy Clause this free agency.

Marques Colston WR
Mario Williams DE/LB
Steve Hutchinson LG
Cedric Griffin CB
Micheal Bush RB
Carlos Rogers CB

Colston: A perfect fit in our system and a sure handed target that knows how to get open for Alex.

Williams: A purely giggle want. Put him at end opposite Smith, with Smith or Brooks pass rushing behind and Willis up the middle and you are going to be making a lot of QBs very uneasy. Never gonna happen.

Hutchinson: On of the best of the last 10 years. He is old, but he would bring some great depth to our line and his experience would be invaluable and a great asset to Iupat and Richal.

Griffin: A slower, but very physical CB that can finish out his career in a system that fits him well and where speed isn't a premium.

Bush: A possible replacement for Gore who is having trouble staying healthy despite his performance, but a certain supplement if he was to be signed. Hard to see given the contract Gore got last year and given Bush wants to be a starter, but Bush/Gore is a ticket no one wants to see.

Rogers: Obvious. I hope we get him resigned.

Outside of Rogers, most of our guys are coming back under contract and I am thrilled.

Maybe the Rams will have to forfeit picks because of Williams' goonish coaching.

The Bengals are definitely expected to at least try to get Bush. They'll be good for him if he wants a starting job on what looks like a possible playoff team, but he probably won't be offered enough money. A lot of fans are unrealistically hoping the Bengals will just make a move to draft Trent Richardson though.

Getting Carl Nicks plus drafting either DeCastro or Glenn would be what I want to happen the most. The Bengals have the cap space to offer Nicks a ridiculous amount but will almost certainly lowball their offer.

There are also holes at WR2, CB, S, and S, assuming Reggie Nelson plays show me the money with another team. Possibly DT depending on who gets resigned.

Oh man the Raiders. If they got Manning wouldn't they have no room whatsoever in cap space to pick up 2 CBs, even though they just cut both of their starters and have no draft picks?

Manning has to be going for (comparatively) bargain basement prices. He has a remarkably high chance of being one and done should anyone put him on the ground. Not to mention the fact that it's been over a year since he had game time and there's no real evidence that his abilities and confidence have come through intact.

Nah, it seems the Raiders are approximated at 8 million under the cap and pending restructuring with several key players, but that figure is bound to be inaccurate.

It isn't like anyone is considering Manning to the Raiders seriously, but he's probably too expensive for them even if it turns out you're right about his price.

But the Rams just hired him, why should they have to give up picks for what he did on the Saints?

Indeed. I doubt the Rams are going to suffer any damage from this.

As an organization? It's unlikely. But if their new Coordinator is suspended/barred/whatever that doesn't exactly have positive ramifcations (pun half intended) for them. I do not know what the exact rules would be but the NFL has shown a willingness to tailor punishments on a case by case basis in the Terrelle Pryor and Jim Tressel situations.

That bounty story is such shit.

Because something guy making 1m a season is going to go harder than normal for a possible 1k bonus...

Not saying it doesn't exist, but I think that it's potential impact is far overblown.

The bounties were apparently 30k in total.

Hey Havok, Niners get Randy Moss, how does that affect getting Colston?

What a fucking world....
ARE THE FOOTBALL GODS NOT THE BEST GODS! :D

Well... Moss was probably dirt cheap, so it shouldn't effect any play for other receivers at all. Colston would still beon my radar. If Moss has any of his old gas left. he should be a difference maker. Now maybe Crabtree can get open underneath.

I didn't see a price tag, but he could still be a bargain at the right price I would agree. YOu think Harbaugh has a better chance of keeping him straight in the locker room than any of the other coaches Moss has had since Belicheck?

1 year. Base 2.something. Incentives up to 4. Good sign and they can always cut him in the middle of the season.

Yup. I figured he would.
Morgan hopefully, will re-sign. Ginn too, although he will have the biggest market out there.

Whoa... the Bears just got a WHOLE lot more fucking dangerous.

I wonder if that signifies that the Dolphins are out of the Manning Sweepstakes or that they are allin and a are going to try to turn into the Colts South?

But man... two THIRDS? Shit, I would have given a 1st and 3rd for Marshall no problem. He must have really wanted out of Miami and they needed to trade him before a holdout and disruption of the the new regime or something.

Well, we cut Winston today to free up room to sign Mario.

If we don't manage it, so help me I'll... I'll...

Hmmm taking some chances on some "character guys" Moss and now Cox. Signing a corner may put us out of contention for Rogers.

I don't think you guys are keeping Williams.

God Hav, please don't let it be that rapist cox.

Edit: it is. :( Always figured Jim Harbaugh to be one of those standup guys, not one of those win at any cost types.

Also, I like how the bears just took Brandon Marshall. More chance of good receivers falling to us in the draft then.

How does a guy be found "not guilty" and then still get the label of rapist again?

Have you read much about the case?

I'm trying to figure out how a jury returned a not guilty verdict in the Cox case.

Prosecution's argument: "She doesn't remember having sex, but now she's pregnant with his baby. There was clearly nonconsensual sex at some point."
Defense's argument: "She was just to drunk to remember the sex."

If she was too drunk to remember having sex, she'd be too drunk to consent to sex...so it's still rape. Was the jury all drunk too?
