He made me laugh. For that, he had a lot of my respect. I will miss him.

Re: RIP Leslie Nielsen
Literally.
He was one my favourites when I was younger. His incredibly absurd comedic style was incredibly influential on me, and he's always held a special place in my heart. One of the things through which my father and I could connect was watching Leslie Nielsen's work in Flying High and Naked Gun.

Re: RIP Leslie Nielsen
As I've said elsewhere, I shall be watching Flying High (Airplane!) in memorium this evening.
Re: RIP Leslie Nielsen
As well as being a great comedic star in Flying High, Police Squad and Naked Gun (& other roles), he also had a long career as a serious actor; of which most memorable to SF fans is his role as Commander Adams in the great SF movie 'Forbidden Planet'. Farewell to a man that has provided great pleasure to so many.

One of my all time favourite actor.
But he lived a long and successful life. Unfortunately it ended prematurely.

Damn, at least he made it to 84 and seemed to live life to the fullest.
School requires more work than I remember it taking...
Re: RIP Leslie Nielsen
My current school, MacEwan University, named their school of communication after him. He was a really decent guy; I remember he was here in Edmonton for the reopening of the renovated downtown YMCA a year or two ago, and he talked about the importance of facilities like the YMCA in helping youth and whatnot. He really believed in giving back to the community.

Re: RIP Leslie Nielsen
Leslie Nielsen didn't start doing comedic roles until Airplane!, most of his early stuff was serious work.

Turns out that a five way cross over between It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the Ali G Show, Fargo, Idiocracy and Veep is a lot less funny when you're actually living in it.

My uni class abandoned our rather tedious lecture today to watch Airplane! instead.

I remember him for Airplane and the Naked Gun movies. But I also remember him as Frobisher from Due South. A semi serious and yet quite comedic role.

My first exposure to him as a kid was in Airplane. It was quite a mind fuck to than see him so super serious when I was introduced to Forbidden Planet a short time later.
