We're just pointing out how ridiculous it is to put that much effort into something as overtly superficial as your hair. You know, part of the whole point of this thread: people expending huge efforts on their appearance in order to meet some arbitrary standard.

Then again, it's also fun and pleasing, the little things that are worth living for. It's as ridiculous as getting a nice car or house when a yugo and studio apartment would probably suffice.

At least with women, there is some rationale for it: like it or not, our society judges women heavily on their appearance. Even for getting jobs and promotions, as sad as that is. But men? Men have even less excuse to expend such efforts on trivialities. I seriously doubt any guy ever got a real job because the interviewer was impressed by the red highlights in his hair.

I doubt that too (as far as weasel-words like "real job" go anyway), but I also doubt women are getting done up explicitly for those benefits. They're doing it to look better, looking better gives people a confidence boost, which equals more success in life, which equals tangible benefits.

It is dead and black and a little lank even when clean. It's just a bitch to do much with using the natural colouration and hang of it, as I understand.

This is a weird tangent, but I'm game. I used to spend a little time on my hair, but we are talking like 10 minutes max and that was only on nights when I wanted to look at least a little presentable. Of course we are talking some pomade and a comb and nothing at all elaborate. See my wedding photos in AMP for what I mean.

Of course there's no difference, except I imagine I get more compliments from strangers about my hair than most do about their shoes, and presumably I'm less suited to working with dangerous heavy machinery. Clearly, we should be evaluating these things relative to our plan to work in a factory making shells for the war effort, or else we're being "pussies" or "homos" or something.
