Epee fencing, anyway. The other two kinds don't go in for that sort of thing.

Whelp, I'm getting better.

Only got the knee once this last practice. Better than the 4-5 I usually do...

Even so I'm getting the feel for it and I'm starting to work my attacks into routines rather than just swing and hope. (I believe the lead guy told me my swing was really powerful and it's a shame to waste it on the middle of the shield)

Still in am starting to price everything up and I have been invited to the local crown event to see more of what they get up too.

Unfortunately I was not able to make it to the Crown event due to a panic attack. :(

Got asked by the Signet to do a Kingdom-level Award Scroll for a local gentle. :luv:

He's 12th Cent German, so I did some researching on Germanic scrolls of the time, and I found a Bible face-page that would be perfect for modification. Remove the Saint in the center so I have room for the calligraphy, keep the border. It's got a lovely diamond pattern with nice diapering I will have no problem replicating. Along the border are roundels with more Saint's heads, but I got the idea of replacing those with the Kingdom Arms, the Order's Badge, and the Gentle's device and his household's badge. It'll be perfect, right?

I'd forgotten what his device looked like. The flanges aren't that hard, but a Double-headed eagle surrounded by three Maltese Crosses on a black field between the two flanges? Yes, that's all nice and pretty on a large shield, but on a 1.5in roundel? :banghead:

Time to fall back and rethink this.

I promise to post a pic when it's done. You can see the original at the J. Paul Getty Museum, MS 65, page 156.
Right now, I've been working on a test-page, playing with what paint will match the original best, and if watercolor or goauche would look better.
Also laid out the lines for the calligraphy on the test page... and then did the whole wording to see how many words I can get per line, testing which size pen I need for what section.
Yes, I've damn near done a full scroll, just TESTING what I'm going to do for the real one. Cause I want it to look right.

So the Prince and Princess of Isulae Draconis are heading to the fight practice I attend this Saturday.

On the one hand I have not gone for a while and really want to get fighting again. On the other I am pretty confident Yannick and the people he is bringing are going to humble me. Not that I was any good to begin with. :P

Have I also mentioned that this will be the first time I have seen any one outside the practice group? Yeah there is that too....

So... I went and I worked on the scroll.... and realized I hated it and it needed to be trashed and started over.

Finished THE THIRD scroll, and I'm letting it sit before I start on the calligraphy.

Can you scrape it and just redo the smeared section?

Yes. I just had to set it aside for a while before I could go back and take a penknife to it. It's fixed now. Pics will be up later. :)

Now, I have 3 local Baronial Award scrolls on my plate. Thank the gods I spent a few days over the winter making and painting blank scrolls. All I have to do is the calligraphy on those. All are due April 29th at Blackstone Raid 26

"If you can't get laid at Pennsic, then you can't get laid at all."

I haven't played Tablero in years. I used to kill it, though. Other than first aid, and stunt driving, I'm only good at the wrong things.

Midrealm rapier in the Pennsic war point battles. Seven up, seven down. The Dragon Unconquered.

Yeah, I hear the Dragon and Allies carried the War to the point it was called a "Win" before the final battles, because there was no way to catch up. LOL!

Also, saw some great pics of you. Highly amused by the one where you're right next to another good friend of mine (the very yellow/purple Landsknect)! Small world.

The A&S champions war point on Thursday is what clinched it, hilariously enough. Rapier hard carried; the armored side went about even or actually I think in favor of the Allies. (Mid, East, and Ealdormere took on the rest of the world this year.)
