Author of 100 Things to Do Before You Die has died at the relatively young age of 47. He didn't die on some adventure - he slipped at home, fell down, and hit his head. Apparently, he only got about halfway through his own list of 100 things. Oh, the irony!

What about you? Of the things you want to do in life, how many of them have you done? Do you have unfulfilled dreams?

I'm educated, comfortable, healthy, and secure. Which means that I'm probably far above average on the afraid-to-die-o-meter. Frankly, the only thing I have still to do that I consider incomplete is seeing my baby grow up and become a successful man. I can't really think of anything that I'd consider more important to me to do with the rest of my life.

The only list I have is seeing all the surviving ships featured in a beautiful "history of seafaring" book I used to have as a kid. I've done the Vasa, Viking longboat, Cutty Sark (right before she burned!) and I plan on seeing Victory and Mary Rose later this year; that leaves the replica VOC Zeven Provincieën (well, once it's finished).

Great Eastern, Mayflower and Savannah are going to be... tricky. What with them not existing any more. Well, Mayflower's a barn these days, so I suppose I can try to visit that.

A lot of the items on that "100 things" list are retarded, like "running with the bulls in Pamploma". Why would I want to experience the feeling of being a moron with lousy risk/reward assessment skills?

Really, the only realistic things I feel I would like to do before I die have to do with my family. Visiting various nice places around the world with my wife, watching my kids grow up and prosper, holding my future grandchildren in my arms. There is one fanciful item on the list: looking down at Earth from space. But that last one is well outside the realm of probability.

Let's see. I would like to write a book or a graphic novel, or both. Not done that yet.

I want at least 1 metal/industrial album to my name, I've done that with inpaindie, but I didn't have much creative input on that, so I'm currently working on my own where I do everything.

Go to New York, done that. Will hopefully do it again at some point.

I want to become an awesome writer/director in the vain of Chris Nolan and James Cameron.

I want to make a series of "why x sucks" documentaries on all the major religions. Punchy, informative, accessible.

I want to make some decent-budget porn at some stage.

Standard family shit.

I did want to meet George Carlin, but obviously that one's no longer possible. I also want to meet Dan Aykroyd and Christopher Hitchens.

Honestly, my only unfulfilled dream is to own a house, and my wife and I are currently working on that. I don't want kids right now, and I don't have a desire to do anything too outrageous in life, so I don't feel unfulfilled at the moment.

My only other outlandish dream, though, is to be the manager of a chocolate factory staffed entirely with big-titted hookers.

No. Space flight will not be cheap within any of our lifetimes. But a guy can dream!

Before I die, I would like to write books, earn college degrees, earn a PhD, teach, run for political office, and leave a significant mark on the world. But most of all, I want to have many successful children and grandchildren, grow old and gray, and die before them.

I suppose if they did it in your lifetime, you set the appointment, then die 30 minutes prior; in an agonizing, slow way, such that you have plenty of time to regret it. That would suck.

1)Have children, and hopefully grandchildren at some point.

2)Visit a wish list of areas on the planet, including all the largest cities;

3)Take a round-the-world-by-consecutive-air-flights trip (I thought about doing it this summer, since I get cheap standby flights.)

4)Fly high enough to see the world really curve below me, if not entirely into space;

5)Write a book of some kind. Hopefully a novel.

I assume you know of Virgin Galactic - are you not planning on taking a trip at some point, if the price comes a little lower?

As far as I'm aware, it's about £100k for a trip into space; by the time I can afford that, it'll have come down somewhat. It's not a lot of money, either, when you put it in perspective.

It's definitely something I want to do before I'm 40.

There are a number of things I'd like to do, but I've found that 'winging it' has led me to opportunities that I might never have encountered if I'd striven for goals instead.

I'm more concerned with what accounts or materials I might leave behind and how to ensure their preservation somewhere; my life to date has been greatly enriched by memoirs, old photographs, and so on, and I would like to try and do a similar favor for some unknown future person.

Spaceship Two's cost per-seat cost is very high, but not completely impossible for the upper middle class and especially as saved retirement thing or instead of a luxury car.

The space tourists so far spent a week bouncing in zero gravity on an orbiting space station. Is spaceshiptwo eventually going beyond being strapped into its fighter plane like cockpit or is it going to remain just merely zoom and boom at a high mach number in an altitude of few hundred thousand feets ? Because otherwise I don't think it would have enough "space creds" for people to spend a lot of money on then bragging about being astronauts.

I never made a formal list, but where a bunch of things I wanted to do with my life. I actually managed to do them all, with one exception, before I was 35. (The one exception being to get into space - I still haven't given up hope on that one, but it's also a bit of a longshot)

So... after all that, I found a new for new dreams. So now I'm working on my second "list", although I haven't gotten that far with it.

Only 100? Bah! MY list probably has over ten thousand listings. Of course, it's not a formal list, and I arbitrarily declare what number something is (#6447: Eat rattlesnake meat) by where it kinda sorta feels in the order of importance to do. I have very little hope of actually taking everything off the list (as I'm always adding new things on) unless I somehow end up being immortal (and death is not on my list).

But I have taken things off the list, like #3851: Touch a banana slug. Also now #7903: Explain my To-Do list.
