BEST NERD MOVIE SUMMER EVER?

I can't remember a better summer for nerds, geeks, whatever. It has been awesome.

Iron Man
Indiana Jones IV
Narnia II
WALL-E
Wanted
Hancock
Hellboy II
Speed Racer
The Incredible Hulk
The Dark Knight

...and I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

6 comic book related or inspired movies.
1 classic fantasy movie
1 anime inspired move
1 Pixar movie
and fucking Indy.

Seriously, is this the best movie for us ever, or am I just imagining it?
Thoughts?

Just for Speed Racer alone, man. It was totally awesome!

CHIM CHIM!

I can't wait for the Goddamn Dark Knight.

What else is after that, though?

2010 (the year I graduate) will be the greatest summer for nerds, geeks, and whatnot but, yeah otherwise this is the best summer yet, movie wise at least. Last year's summer movies had a bit more hype but, a number of those turned out to be disappointments.

You forgot Sex and the City on the list. (just like man, to overlook women)
What else is after that, though?

A couple of comedies. Tropic Thunder, Pinapple Express, and whatnot. It's pretty much following the same August pattern as last year.

Early 80's had the First Indiana Jones movies and ESB, running along to |Bladerunner.

Still, for sheer quantity, this summer is the best in, well, maybe ever. A bit hard on the wallet though :(

I know I'm looking forward to several of them, which is more than usual.

You forgot about the X-Files movie, Hav!

That looks kind of cool, and while I love the show something bad, I just don't know if I'll be going to see it. :|

Maybe wait until it hits second-run.

And it's all kinds of nuts how much money Indiana Jones... has made so far: like $738 million worldwide.

SHIT! The King Of All Nerd Movies! Damn, not to mention Harry Potter VI too. Although I'm not sure if they qualify as summer movies. I know HP is November... when is XF?

Really???

I thought that was Indy (for this summer atleast). Eh, I never really cared too much for the X-Files, so the movie is a pass for me.

Eight of nine projects derived from pre-existing comics, manga or movies.

At least the risk of originality has been kept to a safe minimum, this year.

Yeah WALL-E and I believe Hancock are the only two original ideas.

Who is this "us"? Because not every nerd is into comic books. Or X-Files. Or anime. (Speed Racer never did anything for me.)

X-Files comes out July 25th.

I'm not a Trekky but, I'll definitely see the movie. Shit, I'm not even half the Star Wars fan some of you are.

Oh crap, I just remembered Clone Wars or what ever the hell it's called comes out in August.

Nerd movies, not 90 minutes of suck.

Okay, that was clearly a joke, whether you found it funny or not. I'll go back and edit that post to make it more obvious just for you.

It's still a step up from last year, when all the big movies were either "threequels" or based on a Saturday morning cartoon from the 80's.

If we're counting 'rest of the year' as well, shouldn't the next Bond movie be up there? I believe it's coming out in November...

I don't even care that much about the upcoming Star Trek movie. I just don't think a summer full of comic book movies necessarily qualifies for "best year for nerd movies ever".

This does seem to be an unusually strong season for popcorn movies. Pretty much every weekend so far this summer, we've seen a movie. So far, we've seen:

Hulk
Iron Man
Kung Fu Panda
Hellboy II

We still want to see:

Indy
Wall-E
Get Smart
Indy 4
Mummy
Clone Wars

Not so keen on Dark Knight, to be honest. It might be a little too dark for my boys, and I'm not a really big fan of three hour long movies. I'll probably wait for video. We've been seeing so many movies that we actually started getting savvy about it, getting one of those theatre discount cards and ordering tickets on-line.

The only films I have seen in that list are Indy 4 and Hellboy II. I will not see Wanted (not a fan of Jolie) or Hancock (not a fan of Will Smith). I plan on seeing The Dark Knight and Mummy 3.

Wong, what did your children think of Kung Fu Panda?

I like your implication that "nerd movie" and "suck" are mutually exclusive.

They thought it was great. Especially my younger son David, who wanted to see it again immediately.

Nerd movies are not entirely made out of fail for the whole length of the film. Even the crapfest of Speedracer had the great CGI or example.
