...WINTER STORM WATCH IS CANCELLED... ...BLIZZARD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TAUNTON HAS ISSUED A BLIZZARD WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON INCLUDING THE INTERSTATE 95 CORRIDOR FROM BOSTON AND PROVIDENCE AND POINTS SOUTHEAST. THE WINTER STORM WATCH HAS BEEN CANCELLED.
WHILE THERE IS STILL SOME UNCERTAINTY TO THE EXACT TRACK...THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR A SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL ACROSS A LARGE PORTION OF SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND.
SNOW IS EXPECTED TO REACH CONNECTICUT...RHODE ISLAND AND SOUTHEAST MASSACHUSETTS SATURDAY EVENING THEN SPREAD SLOWLY NORTH OVERNIGHT. THE HEAVIEST SNOW SHOULD FALL LATE SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH MIDDAY SUNDAY.
LATEST INDICATIONS ARE THAT AN AXIS OF 8 TO 15 INCHES OF SNOW WILL BE POSSIBLE ACROSS RHODE ISLAND AND CENTRAL AND EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS FROM THE WORCESTER HILLS TO TAUNTON...BOSTON NORTH TO THE MERRIMACK VALLEY.
AT THE HEIGHT OF THE STORM SUNDAY MORNING...IT IS VERY POSSIBLE THAT SNOWFALL RATES WILL REACH 2 TO 3 INCHES PER HOUR AT TIMES ALONG WITH A FEW RUMBLES OF THUNDER NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION. GUSTY NORTHEAST WINDS INCREASING TO 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 50 MPH WILL CREATE AREAS OF BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WITH POOR VISIBILITY SUNDAY.
BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE IN THE BOSTON AND PROVIDENCE AREAS DURING THE HEIGHT OF THIS STORM AS VISIBILITY DUE TO FALLING AND BLOWING SNOW IS REDUCED TO 1/4 MILE AT TIMES.
THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS WINTER STORM. TRAVEL MAY BE SERIOUSLY IMPACTED BY THE COMBINATION OF POOR VISIBILITY AND SLIPPERY ROADS. PLAN TO HAVE TRAVEL COMPLETED BY LATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON.

Huge snowstorm, and it's hitting on a Saturday. What a fucking waste.

I wonder if it will come across the Appalachians and hit the midwest. I can dream, can't I?
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

They were calling for 4-8 inches in the Appalachians on the evening news. People were stocking up on staples tonight. Personally, with the general lack of snow the river valley's been suffering, I'll believe the forecast when the snow's on the ground.Surlethe wrote:I wonder if it will come across the Appalachians and hit the midwest. But, on the other hand, whenver a storm *does* come from the East, and survives the rise over the mountains, it's *always* a nasty one. Summer or Winter, if a storm comes from the East, you're gonna get hit hard.

Staples? Is there some reason why you'd need staples during a blizzard?
Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. You know, looking outside after several hours, it's snowing again. This is nice; finally, we're having some winter during winter!

SNOW WILL BEGIN ACROSS NORTHERN CONNECTICUT...THE SOUTH COAST AND THE ISLANDS BETWEEN 10 PM AND MIDNIGHT...AND SHOULD REACH THE INTERSTATE 95 CORRIDOR AND CAPE ANN BY 3 AM SUNDAY. THE HEAVIEST SNOW WILL FALL SUNDAY.
TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS WILL RANGE FROM 6 TO 10 INCHES ON NANTUCKET AND BLOCK ISLAND...TO BETWEEN 8 AND 15 INCHES ELSEWHERE IN THE BLIZZARD WATCH. THE 15 INCH TOTALS ARE MOST LIKELY TO OCCUR FROM PROVIDENCE AND BOSTON...SOUTHEAST TO THE UPPER CAPE.

It has been snowing since 9am, at least. In the downtown area where I live, the snow is only JUST NOW starting to stick to cars, grass, etc... but the rooftops and roads are only wet.
Five miles outside the downtown area, away from the river, the snow was starting to stick at Noon. Twenty miles out, there's reports of 3-5 inches. But here in downtown, after HOURS of snow... it's pitiful.

It's snowing here in Richmond...mixed snow and rain throughout the day. Supposed to go on tonight, but with all the water on the ground, and the low only in the twenties, I doubt it'll amount to much, whatever the predictions say.
