Anyhow - it looks like I'll be a judge for a card of theirs early next year. I'm keen to see how the experience is.

From what I heard, it's pretty rough. There's no slow-mo replays like Fight-Metric uses to ensure all the hits are scored correctly. You don't have 6 camera men and a director ensuring the best possible view at all times. Depending on where your sitting, you may not even see half the strikes thrown.

This seems to be why a lot of judging seems to come down to who is backing up more, even if the other guy is just bull-dogging and throwing wild, ineffective strikes while moving forward. Basically, if you smile a lot when you get hit, put your arms up and make a "hit me" motion, and/or just swing your arms really hard at empty air: you can eek out decision wins.

At any rate, I'm sure I'll be better than Cecil Peoples.

You could be the first judge to score a 10-10 round, or even a 9-9 in the event neither of the fighters did anything. But you might have to fall on your sword for that one, and that's not a great way to start a career.

Given that it's a local show, I'll be surprised if I have to make any calls as it will likely be grapplers finding out that their standup (and chins) aren't up to spec and strikers finding out that they should have maybe learned some submission defence, or at the very least how to sprawl.

As for 10-10s, I'd really like to start setting that trend, but I know that boxing commissions are douchebags. And there was a UFC judge on the undercard in Vancouver who scored a 10-10 and then Marc Ratner fired him.

Bendo v Pettis should be amazing. The rest of the card isn't exactly weak either.

You gotta love Japan, the country that gave us Jose Canseco vs. Techno Goliath and where Bob Sapp is a goddamn celebrity. They are the masters of the freak show fight and I wouldn't be surprised if they have Cris Cyborg vs. Minowaman or Sakuraba at some point.

Man, man that was a good card. Baroni gets KTFO, Leben gets KTFO, Nate Diaz loses, Brandon Vera gets bitch slapped, and the main event goes to a draw.

So back to UFC 125, Dustin Poirier pulls off a front kick like the one in the JC Skarbowsky highlight clip, Poirier just knocked the guy on his ass with a teep. You don't see that every day.

On the first fight of the main card, Gomi was completely confused by Guida's 1980's metal band headbanging act, the dude was in full out headbang mode and Gomi and everyone else must've been thinking "what the fuck is going on here?" It was like headbang headbang headbang takedown and I don't think Gomi landed a single punch, then he got guillotined in the 2nd round. Fucking Gomi, he's useless unless the other guy stands in front of him and trades punches.

Leben was probably having flashbacks to his fight with Anderson Silva given the way he was knocked out by Brian Stann. He ate a big punch and got dropped, the got back up and ate more punches, then got nailed with a knee to the head that dropped him again just before getting pounded out cold. It was great.

Then we have Vera vs. Thiago Silva, the 1st round ended with Silva on top of Vera, Silva gets up when the bell sounded, stands over him and taunts him. Vera gets in his face and the ref has to break it up. They come out hard in the 2nd, the fight ends up on the ground and not much happens, end of round. At the start of the 3rd Vera gets a knockdown and raises his hands like he won the fucking fight instead of jumping on Silva to finish it. Silva gets a takedown later on, gets back control on Vera and bitch slaps him, it was total humiliation.

In the main event Edgar gets caught and punched silly in the 1st round to the point where he doesn't remember what the hell happened when Rogan asked him about it in the post fight interview. He was knocked down multiple times and punished standing and on the ground, I thought the fight was getting stopped for sure at several points. Then he comes back in the 2nd like nothing happened and takes Maynard apart with punches, and later on in the fight he picks up Maynard and slams him. Edgar's gotta be up there with Jon Fitch when it comes to physical & mental toughness, I can't remember anyone else coming back from the kind of beatings that they both took in the 1st round.

edit: And the UFC has just suspended Chael Sonnen. Good work Chael, good work.
