Try manually deleting the bbs.stardestroyer.net cookie and logging in again. This is a common problem with cookie-based authentication systems; the old cookie can get 'stuck' and not reset properly. I assume you haven't disabled persistent cookies.

I had a most bewildering experience where I searched for a topic from several years back, and the date on the board reverted to the date of the last post in that topic. Every forum came up as locked and the most recent postings were from early April at best. This hasn't happened ever before when I used the search feature, so it might bear making note of.

I wonder if you got relocated to the Archive board at http://bbs2.stardestroyer.net/Archive somehow.

Now that you mention it, that url does seem familiar. I had to "climb" my way out of the old dates by finding threads with more and more recent postings in them.

FYI: The software has just been updated from 3.0.4 to 3.0.5. This was a bugfix revision which was released by the dev team at the end of May. Hopefully this update will not choose to be ironic and introduce new bugs.

Whatever else it does, it seems to fix IE8 compatability issues, at least for me. That button isn't even there anymore, and the text box isn't all wonky on me, either.

Hey Mike, whatever happened to this:

"Prepare the smackdown for our latest newbie, (insert name here). Our flamewarriors have posted (insert number here) times."

Not that I would want it back, but any reasons why you removed it?

No particular reason. When I upgraded from version 2 to version 3, it was a huge upgrade which required bottom-up rebuilding of most mods and customizations, and I didn't bother recreating that one.

It's actually a fairly simple change to make, but I just didn't feel like bothering. I suppose that if enough people wanted it back, I would do it.

It'd be pretty awesome to have it back.

Feel free to start one in the HoC. I don't think I'm allowed anymore. :P

Darth Wong, when I try to click on your OT post using FireFox 3.0.10 (on Vista), "The US Post Office has guided missiles!" (here http://bbs.stardestroyer.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=134926), I get a white page with this smiley on the page and nothing else:

The top of the window says "GIF Image, 15 X 15 pixels" instead of the typical "Topic X Discussion."

Trying to open the link in the latest IE and Opera, the thread is visible as normal.

UPDATE: Please disregard. I flushed the cache and it's visible in Firefox now.

Again with the search. The first page will come up without any trouble, but any time I try to move onto pages past that, I'm given the whole "sorry, search is presently unavailable, please try again later" song and dance.

Darth Wong, what value have you set for 'cache search results' (in seconds, on the 'search settings' config page)? It should be about 60. Values smaller than 10 in combination with the fairly strict search throttling you're using will cause this problem.

The search appears to have given up completely. Even a board-wide search for a general word like "car" gets you zero results.

Car is too short, so the system rejects it. The search I just did for "Bush" worked fine though.

...

Whoops. It didn't give me the "search term is too short" warning so I thought that'd been lifted. Never mind, carry on.

Twice when googling on a subject I've gotten links the these forums, and when I clicked on them I got a warning that something was wrong with the site's "security certificate". The second time was to this thread.

For some reason, Google likes to link to the SSL version of the page. And IIRC Mike didn't want to pay money for a certificate so we get that error. Just take the 's' out of 'https' and you'll be good.

The spoiler tags don't seem to be working properly. They should hide everything that's typed into them as a single line until you click the "reveal" button like on other forums, but instead they seem to be as big as the information they contain.

I'm repeatedly being logged out after mere minutes, seconds even, of inactivity.

Looks like most of the avatars got nuked in the software upgrade.

A lot of avatars have stopped working for me lately. Havok, Superman, Mr. Coffee, tim31, Stark, and a few others are all that come to mind at the moment. In place of their avatar, it has text that says "User Avatar".
