Considering the time of year, I'm going with Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers.

Fuck it, what we need is an Arnold movie compilation! That man defines RUTHLESS 80s ACTION and RUTHLESS ACTION defined the 80s!SiegeTank wrote:Definitely Commando. Better movies were made, but this is still the greatest movie of the 1980's.
Action movies have never been the same...

Re: What is the greatest '80s movie?
Regardless of which was BEST, the thing that makes 80s action movies stand out from a crowd is the fact that nobody can take them seriously even when they are trying to be serious. Modern action movies try to convince you that you should take what you're seeing seriously - or at least that they want 'more realism!', whereas 80s action movies just say, "A guy dying in a toilet explosion would look REALLY FUCKING COOL".
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.
Re: What is the greatest '80s movie?
Action movies are best when you can't take them seriously. Face it - if you have enough SOD to actually accept it as being a real story, then there aren't enough explosions. They work far better when you can delegate them to the role of a surreal, abstract comment on American foreign relations.

Re: What is the greatest '80s movie?
I would almost argue that action movies that can be taken seriously cease to be action movies and become more of a drama with lots of action. The Bourne films are good example, imnsho.Lusankya wrote:Action movies are best when you can't take them seriously. So I stare wistfully at the Lightning for a couple of minutes. Two missiles, sharply raked razor-thin wings, a huge, pregnant belly full of fuel, and the two screamingly powerful engines that once rammed it from a cold start to a thousand miles per hour in under a minute. Life would be so much easier if our adverseries could be dealt with by supersonic death on wings - but alas, Human resources aren't so easily defeated.

Re: What is the greatest '80s movie?
Well, I hold all Star Wars movies above everything else. They're not even in the same low end classification as 'movies'. It also isn't fair to consider Indiana Jones. So I will go with 'The Wizard' starring Fred Savage.
