As for Tora! Tora! Tora!: it's a great historical docudrama, but unfortunately not a very good movie. Yes, it's better than Pearl Harbor even as a movie, but then again almost anything done with a big budget is, except perhaps Battlefield Earth...
Why is Tora! Tora! Tora! not a very good movie?

I would also like to know this as well. What makes you think it isn't a good movie? The use of physical effects and the actual Pearl Harbor events? Is it not good enough of a moral question seeker that the parts of the movie leading up to the Attack bore you?

You will need to explain yourself.

Yeah, the final scene of the movie is Nick at his daughter's recital. Spoiler
Fun fact, my fiance is in that scene as an extra.

It is not good drama and it's not visually very appealing, either. Roger Ebert's opinion is nearly identical to mine (excerpt):
The direction mostly seems to be the responsibility of Richard Fleischer, and that's believable enough. Fleischer was responsible for "Dr. Dolittle," "The Boston Strangler" and "Che," and the same leaden touch is evident in "Tora." He never seems to have asked himself how the attack on Pearl Harbor could be effectively presented in dramatic terms. The 1940s Pearl Harbor potboilers at least gave you some characters to identify with, and a sense of suspense (will the hero die? The heroine? The best buddy?)

"Tora," on the other hand, offers no suspense at all because we know the attack on Pearl Harbor is going to happen, and it does, and then the movie ends. We don't even feel sympathy for the officers responsible (if that's the word.) They've been directed as wooden puppets reading security reports, etc.
And since this is an oldish movie I actually watched it from DVD before reading a single review, so you can ditch any theories of my opinion being influenced by critics.

as for why they couldn't move clyde to a new prison...given that he's been essentially walking out at will, do you really think he's gonna give them the chance to move him? No.

He's probably just talking about the fact that it's boring as hell.

Oops, got them mixed up.

Anyway, how's he not going to "give them the chance?" :wtf: He never showed any want to just escape - especially considering he was out and "free," but never actually fled. It's not like he'd know they were coming to take him out - and if they were smart, they'd have his secret exit blocked off when they came to move him.

That would be the end of it after that - no more secret tunnels for him to get out and do what he was doing.

Regardless of that, Nick still was unpunished for murdering an inmate while also destroying part of a prison.

I think you should watch the movie again. That bomb was going to go off and they didn't have time to disarm it. And he wasn't his lawyer, he was the prosecuting attorney. Clyde was representing himself and refused any other counsel.

He was his lawyer earlier in the movie.

So if a bomb can't be disarmed in time, it's perfectly okay to blow up a prison/murder inmates with it? :wtf: Instead of, you know, dropping it off somewhere it won't do any harm?

He was the prosecutor earlier in the movie and was keeping Clyde up to date on how the case was going. Clyde went off the rails when they made a deal. He was never Clyde's lawyer however.
