Make that 3!

Just a shame England couldn't do likewise against Slovakia :banghead:

Indeed :D :D :D

Now, the only question is, would a third shot of Grand Marnier Red Label to celebrate the occasion be overdoing things a bit?

Ah, fuck it. Since I only have to show up at work at noon, it's not!

Northern Ireland is down.
They can only reach the quarters if they equalize or win.
They still play a 10 men wall in their last third of the field.

Baffling.

The postmatch analysis confirmed what I'd already thought- it was only because the Irish keeper was in the form of his life that kept Germany from curb-stomping them like they did Brazil. Apparently as long as they didn't lose by more than 3 goals they still had a good chance of qualifying as the best of the rest.

Thank the Disgrace of Gijón for why we have to choose which match we watch at this point.

What I do not understand is why they simply did not make a rule saying that if you do something like that you are immediately disqualified (both teams, no question) and punished with say a 10 year ban or something and idiotically huge fines that will make their national football federation go bankrupt. Also lashing.

Collusion is really hard to prove at that level though.

That's because you're wrong. Northern Ireland has qualified for the last 16. Keeping the score down kept their goal difference decent (0), which means they finish above both Turkey (-2) and Albania (-3) although all have 3 points.

Great- Wales vs N. Ireland in the last 16  . Sucks when the home nations come up against each other so soon in the tournament- ideally they should only play each other in the final since that would guarantee a British winner!

So, Germany beat Slovakia like a drum and sailed on to a 3-0 victory, while Belgium stomped an anemic Hungary flat with a 4-0 win.

Holy shit I love today's games. Italy sent an utterly toothless Spain home with a 2-0 win.

And the England vs Iceland game?

3 minutes: Rooney puts a penalty shot in
6 minutes: Iceland ties the score
18 minutes: Iceland takes the lead 2-1

And the rest of the period England is looking like "WTF is going on here?!"

The England football team might be. England as a country is issuing a long-suffering sigh, rolling its eyes, and thinking "here we go again".

Meanwhile, lets see Iceland's second goal again (I've shamelessly stolen this from another forum);

Not surprised by that at all, Italy are my 'dark horse' pick in this tournament; they've come in without any expectation back home and are just doing what Italy are good at; being ruthless when they have their chances.

P.S. Dele Alli should have been booked for that dive. I suspect the reason he wasn't is because he realised what he did and didn't try to milk it for a penalty.

Looks like the England team saw the Referendum result; they're obediently trying to get out of Europe as fast as possible.

Congratulations England, managed to get yourselves out of Europe twice in one week! :D

The commentators were going back as far as the '50s for a defeat as bad- I can think of a more recent one- losing 4-1 to Germany at the last 16 on WC 2010.
