LadyTevar wrote:As Rogue said, these are not 'Foam" weapons. The weapons used are 1 1/4in wide sticks of rattan, the same stuff they make chairs from. This is not bamboo, either, but a very solid yet flexible wood. The only padding they place on it is a closed-cell foam 'thrusting tip' at the end of the weapon -- the rest is simple strapping tape covered with ducttape. All combat is done at full speed as well. These men do not hold back, and I have seen 12g steel helmets dented from impacts from the rattan swords.
To add to this. I have, personally, been hit hard enough to drive me to the ground from the impact. I've taken ballistae (Yes, the siege weapons) shots to the stomach and shoulder. I've hit people hard enough with my spear to thrown them three feet back. I've bodily shoulder lifted people off the ground and tossed them over a stack of hay bales.
Safe weapons it is not
On the other end I also do Rapier. Which is done, as the name implies, with rapiers that have blunt edges and rubber tips but are otherwise metal weapons.

East lost that tourney sadly (Well, sadly for me since I live in the east). By 2 fights, 16-14.

I'm assuming every time Rogue groaned, the Mid lost?
Nice shots of Don Donnan, one of Æthelmearc's White Scarfs (the Marshall with the gold sleeves), btw. You met him at Wickerman, Rogue.
One question, as it wasn't clear -- were these just the East/Mid champions?
If not, do you know who was the Æthelmearc champion, as I did not recognize any armors.

Each ally got one champion, I believe, but they did not identify who was from what kingdom; they only read off names.

So... who else saw the Anglo-Saxon hoard and suddenly had IDEAS for scrolls and embroidery?

We do that already.
I'm talking making things to look like the items found in the new Staffordshire dig, or taking designs from the pieces (like the horse-shoe-like garnet inserts on one of the studs) to use as border-work on a scroll or embroidery trim.

A Scadian who I met many years ago at the first Blackstone Raids was featured on Martha Stewart recently
I have two of Andrea's masks, a wolf and a leopard. Last time she was at a Blackstone Raids Nitram had to stop me from purchasing a dragon like the one worn by the woman in the audience.
OK... one week until the 6th Annual Burning of the Wickerman. I have been promised the burning man will NOT look like a cross this year
And while there's no feast this year, there will be an ALL DAY Sideboard. Once again, Deer stew is on the menu.

If anyone can actually manage to shoot a deer this year.

It's bow season. We've got an overabundance of deer, believe me.
But we like to poa... uhh... acquire our deer from the Midrealm side. Much fatter, as if they're less hunted over there.

Going to the Festival of Maidens in Urbana, Illinois this weekend.
Baron Maximilian of Shattered Crystal is accusing the Thieves of Hearts of treason, again, and is demanding that they present themselves for mass trial by combat against his baronial forces and allies, again. Considering I sided with his Excellency the last time and despite being outnumbered five to one the Thieves prevailed (by the last of their number demanding single combat and defeating people one after the other until the good baron conceded), I think justice and honor demand that I take the Thieves' part this time since they have clearly already proven their innocence. I expect to have video of the proceedings; the schtick and banter are always entertaining when they do this.

The challenge format was different from the last time; no mass melee due to snow outside. Ah well. At least I got to point my camera.
