Boss: What? Ryan called it in too. Did you two coordinate this?

Me:No...but you see the snow plow hasn't came through yet and...

Boss: I need someone to open up the NOC.

Me: Look, I can't get out. Hell, I can't even take the Metro in, there's no above ground service. The government is going to be closed tomorrow too.

Boss:The desert won't be closed. Need me to come down to help shovel you out?

Me:...you're offering to drive down to Fairfax, from Baltimore, to help shovel me out.

Boss: I really need someone to open up the NOC.

Me: Fine. Whatever. I'll dig myself out, don't bother heading down, by the time you get here I'll be finished.

*proceeds to cut a path through about 40ft of snow, including multiple berms, form my parking spot to the main drag.*

Lady: What are you DOING?

Me: Shoveling a path out.

Lady: You are pushing that snow back onto MY CAR. My husband spent all afternoon shoveling it out!

Me:Then your husband did a bad job, as he just piled it all into a mound right dead center of the road.

Lady:I'm going to to go get him! *disappears, never to return*

Me:What the hell?

*Korean man pulls out in car and inches along behind me*

Me:Hey, what are you doing? Are you planning on helping?

Korean Man: *blank look*

Me:Look, I'm doing this for me, not you. If you need to get out so badly why don't you step out and help?

Korean Man: No! You maintenance!

Me: Look sir, if you're going to fart around like this, help me out.

Korean man: *Scowls, rolls up window*

Me: Fine. *Proceeds to fling snow on car windshield. Korean Man backs up into his parking space*

Korean Man: I tell manager!

Me: Go ahead.

*finally clears a path, runs in, shits shaves shower, gets phone call asking to pick other guy on Mids up, drive along on shitty ill-plowed roads before pulling in about an hour late. phone in NOC rings*

Boss: Why are you late?

Me:Look, I had to shovel my way out to the street. My arms and back really hurt.

Boss: If it was going to take you that long to get out, why didn't you say so?

:banghead:

So here I am. Yippee.

Officially 28 inches in Philadelphia. Out here in the suburbs we got about half that.

About 3:00 in the morning as the winds were swirling:

Been snowing nearly nonstop here in winnipeg for the last few days. Which is a welcome change to clear skies with Negative 30 degrees with ball bitingly chilling wind that you usually get at this time of year.

Lol. I was joking, though. I learned the virtues of moisturizing shampoo and lotions a long time ago. But I know what you mean. Out east they need dehumidifiers, and out here you notice if the house doesn't have a humidifier.

You guys out east are about to get some more snow.
My part of Wisconsin is about to have 10-14 inches dropped on us,
and should be heading your way.

We're projected to get 9 inches tomorrow. On top of the six we have.

It's glorious!
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

I read 10-18 inches in the paper today. Could be more. And almost none of the snow from the last storm has melted.

Up here in what's supposed to be the frozen north we're mostly green on the ground.

Well, shades of brown mostly, but anyway it's not white.

All the snow this year seems to be deflected away once it gets around New York. When DC is getting more snow than us it's just crazy.

Winter Storm Update from Montgomery County -- 7:15 PM Monday, February
8, 2010

In responding to the record 30-inch snowfall of last weekend, Montgomery
County has about 1,000 Department of Transportation employees and
contractors and an unprecedented 800 pieces of equipment on the street.
During the storm the County treated and plowed emergency and primary
routes. Once the snowstorm ended at 4:20 p.m. on Saturday, County
employees and contractors completed clearing the primary and secondary
roads. They finished those efforts by Sunday midnight.

Since early Monday, all efforts have been fully focused on 4,128 miles
of neighborhood roads divided into 140 plow routes with workers and
machinery laboring around-the-clock to clear the snow as soon as possible.

Thousands still remain without power and hundreds of trees are down. The
County continues to work closely with PEPCO to provide them with the
snowplows, tree crews, and other assistance they need to restore service.

The shelter at Richard Montgomery High School, 250 Richard Montgomery
Drive in Rockville, remains open. Transport to the center is being
handled by County volunteers with 4-wheel-drive vehicles and by Maryland
National Guard members. Medical emergency calls continue to be handled
by Fire & Rescue.

Montgomery County government will be open tomorrow, Tuesday, February 9,
for normal operations, with liberal leave for employees.

Ride On buses will operate on an “S” schedule on Tuesday. Parking
enforcement in County garages and parking lots will remain suspended
through Thursday. County liquor stores will be open. The Solid Waste
Transfer Station will close at 5 PM on Tuesday.

Given piles of plowed snow along streets and at intersections, County
officials urge motorists and pedestrians to continue to exercise extreme
caution. Residents should continue to check in on friends and neighbors
to make sure they are all right.

If there is an emergency, County residents should call 911. Please do
not call 911 with snow plowing questions, as that delays responses to
emergency calls. For snow calls, call 240-777-6000 or email
highway@montgomerycountymd.gov. To volunteer with a 4-wheel drive
vehicle, call 240-777-2600.

Its been snowing here but just a light dusting. Thankfully I've still got a mostly full bottle of Appleton's white Jamaica rum on top of my fridge.

The snow layer here goes up past my knees where it's not plowed away. First real winter in a few years here in Finland. Good time last weekend at the range with my club, here's a pic from last sunday, funny thing is that halfway out that range there is a moat, but you can't see it for the heavy snow layer has evened out even the biggest dents, funny to walk into that without knowing.

It IS the biggest storm to hit the Washington DC area since.......1919; so I would say it is somewhat worthy of the "news" thing. But hey, I'm not gonna complain if it gets moved to OT.
