Fundies. Tangos. Black Moving Objects. (Some) People with way too much money. Hot as hell in Summer.

Somewhat inaccurately associated with oil (it's more to the east) and camels (there are but usually riding in truck beds).

The Cattle Industry (and barbeque!)

The Railroad, for said cattle industry.

Lockheed has their fighter production line here. Not far from my apartment either. I could take you there if you're in town but we'd only end up getting turned back by the guys with machine guns.

The Stockyards. For the Cattle Industry and the Railroad for said Cattle Industry, though now it's more of a touristy place. Good restaurants though. For barbeque.

We're also known for being next door to our sister city: Dallas.

What's Toronto known for? Offhand, I'd say the SkyDome, the big phallic tower, and all of that big-city liberal multi-cultural stuff like the Gay Pride parade and Caribana.

Living, as I do, in what is essentially a bedroom community for state workers and soldiers, the best I have is the band Sleater Kinney, named after a street here. Olympia, of course, has its own beer and type of oyster. So how about everyone else?
btw, what the hell is Sleater-Kinney up to these days? I go down to visit friends in Olympia once a month or so and I always wonder when I pass that exit.

If we were to extend it to Tassie as a whole (still a smaller amount of people than most cities)...

The best fucking beer in the world.
Some of the best wine in the world.
Some of the best food in the world - especially anything to do with meat, be it beef, lamb or our specialty, seafood.

And of course - being a WB Cartoon location.

What's Tampa known for?

Me! :D

Well, I think we still call ourselves the Lightning Capital of the World, though apparently it's more properly some place in Lakeland if memory serves.

We also have Busch Gardens and Adventure Island. A zoo that's actually pretty fun and a waterpark. Yay!

We're also the city that the movie The Punisher was filmed in.

Of course, technically I live in Temple Terrace. I think the only notable thing about this city (other than the rampant sucking of the golfer's cocks by the city) is that we have an armored tactical vehicle. I don't know why we'd ever need one, but there you go.

Brisbane, Australia: Known for it's lack of social scene after 10pm. Hence the name "Brisvegas". :|
After all, this is completely straightforward. What could possibly go wrong?

99% of the UK population will instantly think of the football club named in my sig.

What they should be thinking of (and I'm interested to know if any of our military historians do) is a certain WW1 battalion. Also coal, mills, cotton and a bloke named Hargreaves, and the world's best brick - the Nori.

And what Rye said about the region in general:
Rye wrote: Beyond that - greater manchester/lancashire - green hills, home of industrialisation, excellent pubs, dangerous gangs, great nights out, culture, "capital of the north." Better people than down south.

During World War II, many Montgomery County residents worked at Johns Hopkins University's Applied Physics Laboratory at 8621 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring (now the site of a parking lot next to the Lee Building). Converted from a car dealership, the building was protected by an armed guard. Here the VT Proximity Fuze was developed. The VT Fuze was a vast improvement over contact and time fuzes widely used at the begining of World War II. In Navy tests VT fuzes were shown to be three times better at shooting down airplanes than the old fuzes. The fuzes were first used in combat to shoot down German V-1 rockets which attacked London in June 1944. By the forth week of use, almost 80% of the rockets were being destroyed due to the VT Fuze. Famed General George S. Patton wrote in a letter, "The new shell with the funny fuze is devastating...I think that when all armies get this shell we will have to devise some new method of warfare. I am glad that you all thought of it first. It is really a wonderful achievement."
"If scientists and inventors who develop disease cures and useful technologies don't get lifetime royalties, I'd like to know what fucking rationale you have for some guy getting lifetime royalties for writing an episode of Full House." - Mike Wong

"The present air situation in the Pacific is entirely the result of fighting a fifth rate air power." - U.S. Navy Memo - 24 July 1944

Cleveland, Ohio.

-Poorest major city in the country
-One of the worst school systems in the country
-Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
-Original home of Nothing Records(Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson)
-The music scene is pretty good here
-The sports teams tend to suck horribly

That's all I can think of at the moment.
