The Kernel

I'm currently slogging through some 200 or so posts to find reasons why. Maybe Durandal or RedImperator could provide some more cogent reasons, esp I think since Kernel is more in the non sci fi forums than I am (like N&P and G&C)

Man.. I even waited several days before I posted.. :P

Since he's been nominated, and while we're waiting for posts favoring his nomination I thought I'd link to one rather notable mark against his nomination, i.e. his performance in this thread.

I've got to second Terwynn's comment about his unsuitability to the Senate. No fucking way are we going to let people who that blatantly violate the debating rules into the Senate. I should also note that Mike's comment to him in the split thread was in a tone that implied Kernel might have gotten banned if the thread had not been split.

There are worthier candidates among the denizens, but I'm not going to name any names since I'm forbidden from nominating anyone.

I'd like to nominate Gil Hamilton for his contributions to the board, especially for making well-thought-out posts. As examples, I offer an arrow discussion regarding Ewok bows; a discussion on teenage fundies; and a discussion on abortion.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

Eh. Okay. I'll withdraw Kernel's nomination for now. I still havent had time to dig through and look for posts, and I don't think he was happy for me nominating him to begin with (which actually brings up a question of what happens if we nominate someone who for some reason doesn't want to be partt of the Senate.)

If someone doesn't want to be part of the Senate, they just let the person who nominated them know, the nomination is withdrawn and that'll be that. We can't obviously force anyone to become Senator against their will.

It's April 23; just bumping to make sure other Senators who may have nominations in mind are reminded that there are only two days left to nominate.

The nominations are now closed. Since there was only one nominee, I am obliged to elevate Gil Hamilton to the post of Senator.

Thank you all for the nominations. I won't lie and say that I'm the most serious person on the planet and certainly not on the message board, believe me, but from here on out I'm solid.

Now in honor of this auspicious occasion, let us all get drunk and play ping pong! :)

Welcome, belatedly, and don't forget to stop by the wine room.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
