The House of Commons has been closed

Post by Darth Wong »

After recent events, I have noted that many board members feel that the Senate no longer serves any purpose, in part because the House of Commons attempted to duplicate that purpose. Rather than serving as an advisory board to the Senate, it simply served the same function the Senate is supposed to serve, except that it has no membership restrictions.

The whole process made a complete farce of the longstanding rules AR2 and AR3 in particular. Quite frankly, every time I looked into it, all I could see was drama queens and whining. Therefore, I have terminated the House of Commons. Discussion of board policies should be undertaken only by the Senate, as was the policy before the House of Commons was created.

I'm sorry. I honestly, at the time, thought it would be a grand idea to foster more direct and democratic involvement. And it became sort of a "North Testing/b/chanistan" with pretensions. :? I stand chagrined.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!

I figured something like this was going to happen. Oh well, I had hoped for better but am amused by the outcome. I would be a cynic, except I find human failings entertaining rather then disheartening.

I supported the creation of the HoC because I thought it would give the people an outlet to speak their mind. I never assumed that they would actually be in a position to dictate board policy in any way shape or form; they were supposed to be an advisory body to the Senate only, and nothing more.

Unfortunately, what we all failed to consider is that there is one strong, organized user contingent on the board, and that is the Chat/Testing crowd, which pretty much took over that place. Now, there was talk of actually replacing the Senate.

Considering the stellar performance of some of the esteemed members of the Commons while defending Testing, I can see why Mike wants them nowhere near power.

Have a very nice day.

I stayed out of this because it was just more drama, and it was a fucking joke.

The HoC could have worked, but it didn't. It wasn't Coyote's fault, it wasn't testing in general's fault, and it wasn't the Senate's fault. I dont really know who to blame positively, but I have suspicions, and I think it was on both sides of the board (Basically I think its a heaping pile of tribalism bullshit that is driving alot of the drama, and its going both ways.)

Anyhow, its closed, and we move on.

There's a reason nobody tries direct democracy in real-life. Why would it work any better on a web board? If you did it in real life, you'd have Orly Taitz speaking in Congress.

About time, the only bitchy whiny drama queens making policy around here should be us!
